I’m on the under in this one. I just envision this being a game that’s fought and won in the trenches. Notre Dame didn’t do a whole lot defensively but benefitted from a banged up Georgia offense last time out. I do think Penn State will be better and more competitive, but not by much. On the flipside, Penn State’s defense negated a really solid ground attack led by the best running back in the country in Ashton Jeanty, and I don’t see Notre Dame moving the ball easily on the ground here. Against the Tennessee Volunteers, Ohio State was up 42-17 and in the last game against the Oregon Ducks, Ohio State was able to secure the 41-21 victory. At halftime, Ohio State was up 34-8 and they never looked back on the way to the victory. Will Howard completed 17 of his 26 passes for 319 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. TreVeyon Henderson had a huge game finishing with eight carries for 94 yards, and two touchdowns. Jeremiah Smith finished with seven catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns. 

Ohio State on the season is averaging 36.4 points while their defense is giving up 12.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 11th in the league while the defense is ranked 1st. On the season, Will Howard has thrown for 3,490 yards, 32 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. 

Why Ohio State Will Beat Texas

• Ohio State has won each of its last four games against top-10 AP-ranked teams.
• Ohio State has covered the spread in each of its last four games as a favorite against top-15 AP-ranked teams.

Texas Just Escaped In Last Game

Texas just escaped in the last game against Arizona State. Texas up 17-3 at halftime and they looked to be in good shape on the way to a blowout. In the second half though they blew it, and it took double overtime to get the job done. Quinn Ewers completed 20 of his 30 passes 322 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Wide receiver Matthew Golden finished with seven catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. Two games ago against Clemson they scored 38 points on the way to the 14 point victory. 

Texas on the season is averaging 34.3 points while their defense is giving up 14.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 21st while the defense is ranked 4th. Ewers on the season has thrown for 3,189 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. In this game, if they want to succeed, they need to get out to a fast start again, but then they can’t take their foot off the gas.

I expect this game is going to be competitive, but Ohio State just feels like a juggernaut right now, and I don’t think anyone can slow them down. The Texas defense couldn’t stop anything in the second half and they are going to really struggle again here. Will Howard has all kinds of confidence right now and they are going to have no issue running up the score here. Look for the Buckeyes offense to get out to a fast start, Texas is going to have no answer, and this will be ugly. North Texas Recap

The North Texas Mean Green come into this game on behalf of the AAC, finishing the year with an overall record of 6-6 this season. North Texas will be looking for their first bowl win since 2013, having lost their last 6 bowl appearances.

Mean Green Push Forward Without Several Key Pieces

The Mean Green will have to forge ahead without starting QB Chandler Morris, who threw for 3,774 yards, 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as well as top receiver DT Sheffield, who recorded 822 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns this season. The QB duties will likely be left to true freshman Drew Mestemaker who went just 4 of 5 for 69 yards this season. The good news is it looks like starting RB Shane Porter could play after logging 643 rushing yards with 5 TDs this season. Porter entered the portal but he’s listed on the depth chart for this game for UNT. The Mean Green will also be without their starting TE Oscar Hammond and starting C Tyler Mercer as well as LG Leke Asenuga who was injured at times this season for the Mean Green.

Why the North Texas Mean Green will win

• North Texas has won five of its last six games against non-conference opponents.
• Texas State has failed to cover the spread in three of its last four games against non-conference opponents.

Texas State Recap

The Texas State Bobcats come into this bowl game on behalf of the Sun Belt at 7-5 on the year. Texas State will look to make it 2 for 2 in bowl games under G.J. Kinne after winning last year’s First Responder Bowl against Rice.

Bobcats Looking For Answers Themselves

The Bobcats have a fair amount of returning production for this game, at least an advantage over North Texas in terms of the amount of returning production, but the Bobcats do lose their starting RB Ismail Mahdi who had 991 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns this season. The Bobcats will also be without RT Alex Harkey as well as top CB Josh Eaton and a pair of defensive tackles in Terry Webb and Tavian Coleman who both hit the transfer portal. The big thing to watch for in this game is how much we see of Texas State QB Jordan McCloud. There’s been rumblings that he will see limited action in this game and would be replaced fairly early in this game, so if you’re planning on backing the Bobcats, just be forewarned.

• North Texas has lost each of its last six games against non-conference opponents at neutral venues.
• The favorite has won 10 of North Texas’ last 11 games.

It also should be mentioned that going back to 1999, Boise State is 6-1 ATS as a double-digit underdog and 3 of those covers were outright wins. Give me the points in a game, I kind of feellike Boise State could steal outright.

The Louisville Cardinals come into the bowl game with an 8-4 overall record on behalf of the ACC. This will be the 4^th straight bowl appearance for the Cardinals after losing the Holiday Bowl last year.

Cardinals Looking To Get Back On Track In Bowl Game

The Louisville Cardinals have some interesting names in the transfer portal/opt-out list, including starting QB Tyler Shough, who threw for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 62.7% passing as it was announced that he would not be playing in this game as well as two of his top receivers, including leading receiver Ja’Corey Brooks, who had 61 receptions for 1,013 yards and 9 touchdowns this season. Chris Bell still looks like he’s going to play after logging 677 receiving yards and 37 receptions with 4 touchdowns. Isaac Brown will play as well after rushing for a team-high 1,074 yards and 11 touchdowns and Duke Watson had 514 rushing yards with 7 TDs as well. On defense, the most notable losses will be DE Ashton Gillotte, who had a team-high 4.5 sacks this season, and CB Quincy Riley, but Louisville will retain their top two tacklers in TJ Quinn who had 79 tackles total and Stanquan Clark, who chipped in 72 total tackles, a team-high 42 solo tackles as well as a pair of interceptions.

Why the Louisville Cardinals will win

• Louisville has won four of its last five games.
• The favorite has covered the spread in eight of Washington’s last nine games.
• Washington has failed to cover the spread in six of its last seven games as an underdog.
• Louisville has won the first quarter in eight of its last 10 games against non-conference opponents.

Washington Recap

The Washington Huskies followed up their appearance in the national championship from last year by going 6-6 overall this season, their first full season as a member of the Big Ten. It will be Washington’s third straight season bowling after an Alamo Bowl victory in year one under Kalen DeBoer back in 2022.

Huskies Hoping To Finish Season On High Note

The Huskies have some interesting roster developments of their own in this game, most notably the benching of starting QB Will Howard, which happened in the season finale, and head coach Jedd Fisch has stated that Demond Williams will get the start in the bowl game. The Huskies do lose their starting LT Kahlee Tafai, who has already transferred to Minnesota as well as starting LG Gaard Memmelaar. Starting RB Jonah Coleman is potentially opting out for this game for Washington, but has stated he will return in 2024 after rushing for 1,011 yards and 9 touchdowns. It at least looks like Washington will have their top two receivers in Denzel Boston who had 60 grabs for 807 yards and 9 touchdowns. Giles Jackson also has 74 receptions for 732 yards and 3 touchdowns. On defense, the majority of the starters return, led by Carson Bruener, who had 93 total tackles and 3 interceptions to lead the Huskies this season.

Why the Washington Huskies will win

• Louisville has lost three of its last four December games as a favorite.
• Washington has won three of its last four games as an underdog at neutral venues.
• Louisville has failed to cover the spread in five of its last six games played at neutral venues.
• Washington has covered the spread in four of its last five Bowl games.

Washington vs Louisville Prediction

I’m on Washington here. I know that both teams will likely not play with their starting QBs here, at least Louisville will for sure, and without Shough, I just don’t see the Cardinals having a ton of success offensively. I think Washington’s the better team here and the majority of their starting skill position players should be good to go here and I think that ends up being the difference in this one. Give me the Washington Huskies here.

Minnesota Looks to Finish Season Strong

There weren’t many expectations surrounding this Minnesota team but if they are to win this game they will finish with eight wins. The Gophers last game came against the Wisconsin Badgers, and they scored 24 points but even more impressive was the defense giving up only seven points and that was enough for the victory. Max Brosmer completed 17 of his 26 passes for 191 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Darius Taylor had a huge game on the ground rushing 32 times for 143 yards. 

The Gophers have been busy bringing in transfers, and next year’s team looks good, but this is a chance for Brosmer to finish his college career with a victory. On the season, Brosmer has thrown for 2,617 yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions. The Gophers on the season is averaging 26.3 points while their defense is giving up 17.5 points per game. In this game the Gophers are going to need the defense to step up in a big way. 

Plenty of Opt Out’s for Virginia Tech

There have been plenty of opt outs for Virginia Tech for this bowl game and that could really hurt their chances in this game. Virginia Tech currently has 24 players in the transfer portal and there has to be a major concern about depth heading into this game. Virginia Tech’s last game came against Virginia and they were impressive scoring 37 points on the way to the 20 point victory. 

William Watson III had a strong game completing 14 of his 21 passes for 254 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. The good news for Virginia Tech is Kyron Drones and Pop Watson who started the last game at quarterback are both back. The Hokies are averaging 29.7 points while their defense is giving up 22.8 points per game. The offense is ranked 53rd while the defense is ranked 40th. 

Virginia Tech vs Minnesota Prediction

Minnesota is going to have little issues getting the job done in this game. Virginia Tech has so many opts out, and they are going to really struggle here. This Gophers defense is often overlooked, but they are going to step up in a big way again here. The Gophers are going to get a strong game from Brosmer, and that will be enough for Minnesota to get the job done. Back the Gophers against the spread.

Duke Blue Devils Betting Preview

The Blue Devils opened up on a nice run this year with five straight wins. Duke would then fall to Georgia Tech, SMU and Miami over the next four games before three more victories over NC State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest to finish things off.

Matched up against Wake Forest back on November 30, the Blue Devils came out of the third quarter with a 17-10 deficit. Duke stormed back with 13 unanswered points in a 23-17 win, though. QB Maalik Murphy had 235 yards with one TD and one pick, while Jordan Moore caught five balls for 98 yards and the score.

Ole Miss Rebels Betting Preview

Over on the Ole Miss side, they won their first four outings before falling to Kentucky and LSU in a three-game span. The Rebels are 4-1 since then with wins over Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia and Mississippi State alongside a lone loss to Florida.

In their November 29 matchup with Mississippi State, the Rebels were ahead by just three points going into the second half. Ole Miss cruised on a 9-0 run from there and won 26-14, though. Jaxson Dart threw for 143 yards and a TD. Ulysses Bentley added 20 carries for 136 yards and a touchdown of his own.

Ole Miss vs Duke Prediction

I’ll stay with Ole Miss, but you could argue this one either way. It seems a fairly generous line for Duke. In any case, the Rebels started pretty slowly versus a struggling Mississippi State team in their last game but eventually pulled off the two-score win on 21 first downs and 397 total yards (254 rushing). The Rebels have scored 26 or more points in five of their last six games—a 4-2 stretch—and they’ve held opponents to 14 points or fewer in three of their last five.

As for Duke, they needed a big fourth quarter to power past Wake Forest in their last game despite holding the Deacons to a tepid 318 total yards. The Devils had a couple of turnovers in that one and went only 5-of-13 on third-down tries, so they could use a cleaner effort here. That said, Duke has put up 23 or more points in six straight games, going 4-2 with a pair of losses to ranked teams in SMU and Miami. The Blue Devils have just two non-overtime losses this year and gave up more than 24 points in just one of that pair (53 to Miami). Ole Miss’ offense has their work cut out for them, but I like the Rebels to pull it off.

After Ohio State’s loss against Michigan there were was a lot of concern about the confidence of this team, but after the last win this team has all kinds of confidence. Ohio State scored 42 points against Tennessee and that was enough for the blowout victory. Will Howard completed 24 of his 29 passes for 311 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Give me Oregon getting the points here. Oregon already knows what it’s like to beat Ohio State, after all they already have knocked them off once this season. This Oregon offense is good and they are averaging 35.9 points per game. WIll Howard at times has been inconsistent and I don’t trust them to find success here. Dillon Gabriel threw four touchdowns in the last game and he is going to lead Oregon to plenty of offense here. Can Baylor Finish Season Strong

Baylor has eight wins this season and they are going to be looking to finish this season off strong. The last game for Baylor came all the way back on November 30th and they were able to knock off the Kansas Jayhawks 45-17. The offense scored 21 points in the third quarter and that helped push them to a win. Sawyer Robertson completed 23 of his 31 passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns. Bryson Washington had a strong game rushing 28 times for 192 yards and two touchdowns. Monray Baldwin had a huge game catching seven passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. One issue for Baylor heading into this game is they are going to be without both starting tackles who have opted out for the NFL draft. Baylor on the season is averaing 34.7 points while their defense is giving up 25.2 points. The offense is ranked 20th in the league while the defense is ranked 68th. 

How Motivated is LSU?

With teams like LSU and Alabama are playing in a non college football playoff game, here has to be questions about how motivated they will be. LSU finished the regular season with an 8-4 record but they have won each of the last two games. In the last game against Oklahoma, LSU scored 37 points and they ended up winning by 20 points. Garrett Nussmeier completed 22 of his 31 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns. While other quarterbacks have opted out, Nussmeier has decided to return to LSU next year and will play in this game. LSU on the season is averaging 29.3 points while their defense is giving up 23.8 points per game. The offense is ranked 54th while the defense is ranked 56th. 

LSU vs Baylor Prediction

Give me LSU here. There is some concern about motivation but Nussmeier is back and that is going to really help the offense. Baylor missing their two starting tackles on offense is going to be a major problem. LSU’s defense is going to have no issue getting pressure on Baylor and that is going to be the difference here. Liberty Flames Betting Preview

Liberty will not have their starting quarterback in this game, as Salter is transferring, and they are expected to have quite a few starters miss the game as well.

The Buffalo Bulls are 8-4 (6-2) this season after they defeated Kent State by a score of 43-7 in their last game. Buffalo led 26-0 at halftime and cruised to the victory in the second half. The Bulls out gained Kent State by a total of 446-208, lost the turnover battle 2-1, and went 9-15 on third down in the game. CJ Ogbonna threw for 193 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, while Al-Jay Henderson rushed for 185 yards and one score in the game.

Riley Leonard has completed 66.8% of his passes for 2,293 yards, 17 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while Jeremiyah Love has rushed for 1,057 yards and 16 scores. 

Georgia vs Notre Dame Prediction 

Notre Dame comes into this matchup on a lengthy winning streak and they have been very impressive over the last few months. Georgia is coming off of an overtime victory in the SEC Title game, but they will be without their starting quarterback here. The Bulldogs have a very solid defense, but I am worried about their offense in this game. Notre Dame’s defense is very good and I think Stockton is going to struggle to consistently put drives together. Take the Fighting Irish to get the win.
