Villanova is looking to bounce back here after they really struggled in the last game. UConn Continues to Shock

UConn continues to shock at times, and it always comes at the worst time. Two games ago against Creighton, they played better and they were able to secure the 70-66 victory.

The one thing they can’t do is overlook this game, or they will be in trouble. UConn is averaging 78.3 points while their defense is giving up 68.5 points per game. This is a big-time bounce-back spot for UConn. It’s not so much that I trust the Huskies; I just really don’t trust Villanova, and the Wildcats are going to have some major issues here. UConn is averaging 78.3 points, and they are going to end up cruising here. This game is going to be a blowout victory for UConn. Back UConn against the spread.

UConn Looks for Second Straight Win

UConn hasn’t lived up to the expectations that were on them at the beginning of the season, but they are coming off a victory in the last game. UConn went on the road and was able to knock off Creighton 70-66. The offense is ranked 74th in the league, while the defense is ranked 81st. Guard Solo Ball has been the top player for this team, averaging 14.8 points while shooting 42. 9 percent from behind the three-point line. Ahmad Nowell is dealing with an injury and is questionable for this game. 

Why UConn Will Beat Seton Hall

Seton Hall’s Offense is Ice Cold

Seton Hall’s offense is ice-cold, and they have some major issues right now. Two games ago against Butler, Seton Hall lost by 30 points, and in the last game against Georgetown, they were defeated 60-46. In the second half the offense scored only 20 points. Seton Hall shot 39.5 percent from the field and and 25 percent from behind the three point line. Isaiah Coleman was the only real bright spot and he put up 21 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist. The rest of the offense just wasn’t good enough. 

Seton Hall currently sits with a 6-18 record overall and they have gone 9-15 against the spread. At home this season they are 4-8 straight up. Seton Hall is averaging 62.4 points while their defense is giving up 69.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 360th in the league while the defense is ranked 111th. Seton Hall’s offense has been a major problem this season, and they are going to realy struggle to get the offense going here. Creighton vs UConn Prediction

I’m on Creighton in this one. I think I’m at the point where I just have to accept that this isn’t the same UConn team as past seasons. Perhaps that will change come tournament time as the Huskies attempt to three-peat, but I don’t see it here against a Creighton team that’s rolling and played really well at home over the course of this win streak. The Bluejays have been playing too well to go against and they’ve proven themselves against the top teams in the Big East more often than not this season. I’ll back Creighton here.

Is UConn Back on Track?

Coming into the season, many believe UConn was a national title contender, and they still might be, but there was a stretch where they had some major issues. Just a couple of Saturdays ago, they lost to Xavier 76-72. Since that point, they have figured it out, though, and won two games in a row. In the last game, they went on the road to Marquette, a place that is very hard to play, and they ended up with a 77-69 victory. At halftime, they were up 42-29, and they ended up holding on. UConn was on fire from the field, shooting 59.5 percent from the field and 63.5 percent from behind the three-point line. Solo Ball had a strong game, putting up 25 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. 

UConn still sits with a 16-6 record overall and they have gone 10-12 against the spread. The over has hit in 12 of the games. UConn is averaging 79.9 points, while their defense is giving up 68.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 54th and that is going to need to be good, but even more impressive, they are going to need the defense to step up. One of the big questions for UConn is injury concerns. Aidan Mahaney is dealing with an injury and is questionable for this game. Liam McNeeley is also dealing with an ankle injury and is questionable for this game. 

St John’s Stays Hot

St John’s looks like a team that could be a problem in March, and they have all kinds of confidence right now. St John’s has won nine games in a row and the last loss came against Creighton all the way back on New Year’s Eve. In the last game against Marquette, St John’s gave up only 64 points and they ended up winning by six points. St John’s scored 40 points in the second half and that was enough for the win. The most impressive part was that they won, shooting only 18.88 percent from behind the three-point line. Kadary Richmond put up 18 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. 

St John’s currently sits with a 20-3 record overall and they have gone 14-8-1 against the spread. Away from home this season, straight up, they are 4-1. The Red Storm are averaging 78.9 points, while their defense is giving up 65.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 73rd in the league and it’s what they have leaned on all year. They like to get up shots and are averaging 65.43 attempts per game. RJ Luis Jr has been the top player for this team, averaging 17.4 points while shooting 45 percent from the field. 

Why St John’s Will Beat UConn

• St. John’s has won each of its last nine games.
• Connecticut has lost the first half in four of its last five home games against Conference opponents.

Even if St John’s is fully healthy, I am not all that concerned, St John’s is still the play here. St. John’s has someone new who can step up every night, and they are going to use that balanced attack here to find success. UConn’s defense has shown holes at times, and they are going to really struggle again here. St John’s is averaging 78.9 points per game, and although they might not score that here, they are still going to score enough here to get the job done. Back St John’s against the spread here.

Both of these teams come into this matchup ranked in the top 25, but Marquette is 9-1 in conference play and they will be at home for this game. The Golden Eagles haven’t been super impressive this year, but they continue to find ways to win. Marquette is shooting 45.1% from the field this year, while UConn is shooting 49% from the field. The Huskies have been pretty inconsistent over the last few weeks and played a very poor first half against DePaul in their last game. I really don’t love either of these teams in this matchup, but I do think we are going to see plenty of points in this one, so I will take the over in this contest.

DePaul Blue Demons Betting Preview

The Blue Demons kicked off the season on a great run, and they were riding high by the end of November. Since then, however, the wins have been few and hard to come by as DePaul has slipped below .500 again. The Demons took victories over Southern Indiana, Prairie View, Mercer, Duquesne, Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, and Valparaiso in succession during a hot start over their first seven outings. A 2-4 run came next with wins over Wichita State and Loyola Maryland alongside losses to Texas Tech, Providence, St. John’s, and Northwestern. Since then it’s been a rough 1-7 run over the last eight games. The lone win in that time was over Georgetown. Otherwise, it’s been losses to UConn, Villanova, Seton Hall, Xavier, Marquette, Creighton, and Butler in that time. The result has been a 10-11 overall record for the Blue Demons through the first 21 outings of the 2024-25 season so far.

Back on Saturday versus Butler, the Blue Demons went into the second half with a 40-33 deficit. DePaul didn’t end up getting any closer than that, falling further behind on a 46-36 run the rest of the way during an 86-69 defeat. NJ Benson was the team’s leading scorer in the losing effort, posting 20 points with nine rebounds in a near double-double. CJ Gunn added 16 points with four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Conor Enright added 12 points with six assists, two rebounds, and two steals in 36 minutes of work as well.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

Over on the UConn side, they’ve had an odd season thus far. The Huskies posted a losing streak on neutral courts back in November and they’ve been sketchy in the win column lately. Other than that it’s been smooth sailing, though. UConn took out Sacred Heart, New Hampshire, Le Moyne, and East Texas A&M in their first four games, then fell in succession versus Memphis, Colorado, and Dayton. A nice win streak ensued over Maryland Eastern Shore, Baylor, Texas, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, DePaul, and Providence. From there, however, it’s been a 2-3 stretch over the last five games for the Huskies. The wins were over Georgetown and Butler. Otherwise, it was losses to Villanova, Creighton, and Xavier in that time, giving UConn a 14-6 overall run through 20 games this season.

Matched up against Xavier over the weekend, the Huskies held a slim 41-40 edge going into the locker room. Xavier came back with a 36-31 second half, however, giving UConn a 76-72 loss in the end. Topping the team with a double-double in the losing effort was Solo Ball with 20 points, 11 rebounds and one assist. Aidan Mahaney came off the bench for 14 points with three boards, three assists and three turnovers, while both Samson Johnson (four rebounds; five blocks) and Hassan Diarra (five rebounds; four assists) scored 12 points each.

Why the Connecticut Huskies will win

• DePaul has lost each of its last 17 games against AP-ranked opponents.
• Connecticut has won each of its last 16 games at XL Center.
• Connecticut has won the first half in each of its last six games against DePaul.

UConn vs DePaul Prediction

I’ll lean toward UConn, but I’m probably avoiding this one. The Huskies have once again run into some issues in the win column lately, and they’re coming off another defeat via a pretty decent (but not great) Xavier team. UConn shot 47.3 percent from the field in that one and won the rebounding battle 35-28. That said, the Huskies also coughed up 13 turnovers for 22 Musketeers points. UConn has been pretty erratic on the scoreboard during this 2-3 run as well. They’ve been below 69 points in three of those five games.

The last time these teams met up back on New Year’s Day, the Huskies secured an 81-68 road victory. UConn had turnover trouble in that one as well (13 for 12 points), so they’ll need to focus on ball security this time. I still like the Huskies here, but I’m not enthusiastic about it.

Ryan Conwell is averaging 16.7 points and 2.7 rebounds, while Zach Freemantle is averaging 16.6 points and 7.6 rebounds. Dayvion McKnight is the third double-digit scorer and Dailyn Swain is dishing 2.1 assists. The Xavier Musketeers are shooting 38.2 percent from beyond the arc and 78.5 percent from the free-throw line. The Xavier Musketeers are allowing 32.7 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 30.8 rebounds per game.

Xavier will continue to be without Trey Green and Lassina Traore. UConn will continue to be without Liam McNeeley due to an ankle injury.

Xavier vs UConn Prediction

The UConn Huskies have been shaky as of late, barely beating a bad Butler team, and losing to Creighton and Villanova. Not having Liam McNeeley doesn’t help. The Xavier Musketeers probably should be favored at home, where they’re 9-2 SU on the season. However, UCONN is still one of the better teams in the country, and you don’t get the Huskies as underdogs often. In fact, this will be the 11th time since 2022 where UCONN is getting points. UConn had two outright wins last month as an underdog. UCconn is also 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in its last four games against Xavier. I love getting the better team as an underdog. Give me the free bucket with the UConn Huskies on the road.

Butler Has Some Issues 

Butler has some major issues all season but they are coming off a victory here. Butler scored 82 points and that was enough for them to hold onto the victory. At halftime, they were up 41-35. Butler shot 51 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from behind the three-point line. Pierre Brooks II had a strong game putting up 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists. There were four different players that put up at least 10 points.

The offense is ranked 249th in the league while the defense is ranked 187th in the league. Jahmyl Telfort has been the top player for Butler averaging 15.2 points while shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from behind the thee point line.

I’m going to take a shot on Creighton and the points here. I’m not the biggest fan of the Bluejays as I have a tendency to feel like Creighton is overhyped and overvalued a lot of the time when they take the floor and are on the betting board. Villanova Has Won Two Straight

Villanova has won two straight games and they have some confidence right now. Two games ago against Butler, they were up 73-65 and in the last game against DePaul, they were able to secure a 100-56 victory. At halftime, they were up 48-32, and they never looked back on the way to the victory. Forward Eric Dixon put up 25 points, five rebounds, and four assists. There are five different players that put up at least 11 points to help pace them. 

Villanova on the season is averaging 80.1 points while their defense is giving up 66.9 points per game. The offense is ranked 75th in the league while the defense is ranked 74th in the league. Eric Dixon has been the star of the show for this team averaging 25.9 points while shooting 53.4 percent from the field and 49 percent from behind the three-point line. He has really kept this team afloat all year with his scoring and rebounding.

UConn Has Confidence

UConn had some issues at times early in the season but they have a ton of confidence right now. UConn in the last game faced off against Providence and that was enough for the three-point victory. UConn shot 56.3 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from behind the three-point line. Hassan Diarrra put up 19 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. There were six different players that put up at least 10 points. Two games ago against DePaul, they scored 81 points on the way to the win. Overall UConn sits with a 12-3 record overall but they have gone only 8-7 against the spread.

UConn’s defense has shown some holes in the last couple of games and they are going to really struggle to defend here. Villanova is going to score enough, and they are going to end up covering the spread here.

Providence Friars Betting Preview:

Providence kicked off their season with a nice five-game win streak, but things quickly fell apart in the record column after that. Those victories came courtesy of Central Connecticut, Stonehill, Hampton, Green Bay, and Delaware State. Following the 5-0 opening run, the Friars fell to Oklahoma Davidson, Indiana, and Rhode Island (with wins over BYU and DePaul) during a 2-4 stretch. Since then it’s been three more losses. Providence has fallen to St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, and Marquette in that trio for a .500 run through 14 games thus far.

In the Marquette matchup back on New Year’s Eve, the Friars came out of halftime looking up at a pretty hopeless 47-20 deficit on the scoreboard. Things didn’t get any better than that in the second, but Providence did slow the bleeding on a 31-30 run from there in a 78-50 blowout defeat. The only one on the team in double-figures was Wesley Cardet, who came off the bench for 11 points and four rebounds. Jayden Pierre led the starters with his nine points and six assists, while Corey Floyd added eight points with seven boards and one assist.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

Over on the UConn side, they’ve had a wild season so far. The Huskies came out of the gate with four straight wins over Sacred Heart, New Hampshire, Le Moyne, and East Texas A&M and everything seemed to be going fine. UConn hit the skids with three consecutive neutral-court losses however, dropping to Memphis, Colorado, and Dayton in that trio. UConn has since shown some resiliency with a string of seven straight wins since November 27, though. Those victories have come versus Maryland Eastern Shore, Baylor, Texas, Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, and DePaul in succession, giving the Huskers an 11-3 run through 14 games of the season.

Matched up against DePaul on New Year’s Day, the Huskies were ahead by a comfortable margin 43-22 by halftime. UConn cruised in the second half with 38 more points and came away with an 81-68 victory. Leading the team in scoring was Solo Ball with 22 points and six rebounds. Alex Karaban added 18 points with seven rebounds and three assists, while Samson Johnson put up 10 points, three boards, four assists, and two steals. Leading the bench scorers for the Huskies was Aidan Mahaney with his seven points and four assists in 16 minutes.

UConn vs Providence Prediction

I’ll just stay with UConn here. That said, I’m probably not going near it. It’s tough trusting the Huskies cover-wise this season, even with the recent success in the win column—they’ve had some close calls along the way. In any case, UConn did well against DePaul after a huge first half in their last outing, eventually shooting a nice 48.4 percent from the field and 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from outside. The 35 rebounds and 22 team assists helped as well, but the Huskies got a little sloppy with the turnovers (13 for 12 Blue Demons points). Still, that makes 76 or more points in seven straight games (all wins) for UConn, which is an encouraging trend including a pair of games against ranked teams (Baylor and Gonzaga).

As for Providence, they shot a meager 34 percent from the field in their latest loss versus a very good Marquette team and coughed up 22 turnovers for 27 Eagles points along the way. The Friars have given up 72 or more points in three straight games (all losses) so UConn shouldn’t have too many issues finding room to score on Sunday. That said, I’m still likely staying away from this matchup. UConn should be in control the whole way, so they may call off the proverbial dogs late and let Providence back into cover territory.

The DePaul Blue Demons have had issues when playing decent teams this season, and that includes a loss to Providence in the favorite role. It’s not going to be any easier for DePaul if Skogman can’t go, as UCONN has serious size down low, and he’s the top rebounder for the Blue Demons. DePaul is 1-4-1 ATS in its last 6 games. UCONN has a history of beating up on lesser teams and is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games.

MSG is a second home for UCONN, and it’s had a ton of success there over the years. There’s just too much value to turn down the free bucket with UConn, a game the Huskies probably win outright.

Not having Nowell is a huge loss for this team, and that is going to be the difference here for UConn. Texas is averaging 80.8 points per game, and they are going to have no issue with running up the score here. UConn’s offense will be fine, but they aren’t going to run up teh score, and that will be the difference here as Texas is going to get the job done. Back Texas against the spread here. Baylor Bounced Back

Baylor faced off against Tennessee two games ago and it was not the best game. Baylor scored only 62 points while the defense gave up 77 points and that led to the defeat. In the last game against New Orleans, they bounced back in a big way, putting up 90 points, and they ended up winning by 29 points. Baylor had four different players that put up at least 12 points. Jayden Nunn was the best player, putting up 23 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Baylor on the season is averaging 85 points while their defense is giving up 73 points per game. The offense is ranked 33rd in the league while the defense is ranked 233rd.

UConn Needs This Win

UConn needs this win after their showing in the Maui Invitational, where they lost all three games against Memphis, Colorado, and Dayton. Give me Baylor here. I don’t care how good UConn looked in the last game, what they did in Maui was embarrassing, and Baylor is going to make them remember it. MD Eastern Shore Betting Preview

The Hawks have been quite busy so far this year, with 10 games in the bank. MD Eastern Shore has fallen to Vanderbilt, Penn, Old Dominion, Murray State, Illinois, Arkansas, and Little Rock in that time. The wins otherwise were versus Penn State Schuylkill and Gallaudet.

I’ll tentatively lean toward UConn, but I’m staying away from this one since the line is so hefty. That said, the Huskies desperately need to post a blowout statement win here after a trio of ugly losses to unranked squads. UConn looked dazed in the Flyers game, giving up 50 percent shooting from the field and getting outmuscled on the boards 41-25. With Baylor, Gonzaga, and Xavier looming in the next four games, the Huskies need to get it together quickly—otherwise, they can kiss any lofty title dreams goodbye.

As for Maryland Eastern Shore, they’ve been below 60 points in their straight games themselves, giving up 78 or more points in each outing. UConn should be able to sleepwalk their way to a cover in Saturday’s game. Still, I can’t put faith in the Huskies to do much of anything after such a disastrous week.
