Texas A&M Aggies Betting Preview

The Aggies have been a highly consistent team so far this year. They’ve got just one instance of consecutive losses in the books. Texas A&M started out on a 4-2 run with wins over East Texas A&M, Lamar, Ohio State, and Southern during that time. The Aggies would hit a winning streak after that, taking out Creighton, Rutgers, Wake Forest, Texas Tech, Purdue, Houston Christian, Abilene Christian, Texas, and Oklahoma. Following losses to Alabama, Kentucky, and Texas over the next five games (with wins over LSU and Ole Miss in that time), the Aggies have since won another five straight. Those victories have come courtesy of Oklahoma, South Carolina, Missouri, Georgia, and Arkansas in succession. Overall through 25 games that gives Texas A&M a 20-5 record so far this season.

In the Saturday matchup with Arkansas, Texas A&M was ahead 33-28 by the break. The Aggies came out of the locker room to a 36-33 advantage and took the eventual win 69-61 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Wade Taylor with 18 points, nine assists, three steals, and one rebound in 35 minutes. Zhuric Phelps added 12 points with nine rebounds and four steals with one assist, and Andersson Garcia led the bench scoring with his 11 points, three assists, five rebounds, and two steals in 26 minutes of work on the floor.

Over on the Mississippi State side, they were looking great in the record column back in early January but since then they’ve struggled amid some tough matchups. The Bulldogs lost just one of their first 15 games (versus Butler). Otherwise, it was wins over West Georgia, Georgia State, SE Louisiana, Utah, SMU, UNLV, Pitt, Prairie View, McNeese, Central Michigan, Memphis, Bethune-Cookman, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt in that time. Since then it’s been a 4-6 run across the last 10 games for the Bulldogs. The wins have come over Ole Miss, South Carolina, Georgia, and Ole Miss again. Otherwise, it was losses to Kentucky, Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, Missouri, and Florida at that time. That gives the Bulldogs an 18-7 record so far through their first 25 games of the 2024-25 campaign.

Matched up against Ole Miss in the road rematch over the weekend, the Bulldogs held a 40-33 edge in the locker room. Mississippi State kept it up from there with a 41-38 run and took the eventual win 81-71. RJ Melendez led the team in scoring with 17 points, five rebounds, and a steal. Josh Hubbard bagged 14 points with five rebounds and four assists, and Riley Kugel had 11 points with three rebounds, three assists, and four steals. KeShawn Murphy and Claudell Harris each had 10 points off the bench as well.

Mississippi State vs Texas A&M Prediction

I’ll take a stab at Mississippi State here. You could make an argument either way, though; we should have a fun matchup in-store. The Bulldogs put up another solid win over a good Ole Miss team in their last outing, posting a 48-36 rebounding edge, 38.3 percent shooting allowed from the field, and 15 points off 11 turnovers. It wasn’t perfect though, as the Bulldogs missed nine of their 27 free throws (66.7 percent) and had 13 turnovers themselves. Still, it was a nice bounce-back after a double-digit loss at home versus Florida last week.

As for Texas A&M, they’re sitting on a five-game win streak but they’ve been below 70 points in three straight games. This one’s looking like a pretty close fight, and I like Mississippi State to power it out in the end.

At halftime they were up 42-30 and even though they didn’t play as well in the second half they were still able to hold to the win. Ole Miss shot 45.5 percent from the field and 61.5 percent from behind the three-point line. Forward Malik Dia had a strong game putting up 18 points and three rebounds. 

Ole Miss comes into this game with a 19-6 record overall and they have gone 14-10-1 against the spread. At home this season they have gone 11-2 straight up. Ole Miss is averaging 78.1 points while their defense is giving up 68.4 points per game. The offense is ranked 84th in the league while the defense is ranked 80th. Sean Pedulla has been the star of the show, averaging 14.6 points while shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 39.9 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Ole Miss vs Mississippi State Prediction

Give me Mississippi State here. Mississippi State already ahs a won over Ole Miss this year, and they are going to have no issue running up the score here. Yes they struggled in the last game against Florida, but I don’t trust this Ole Miss offense to be as consistent. Look for another big game from Josh Hubbard and it’s going to be Mississippi State is going to end up covering the spread here.

However, This is a bad spot for Florida, head on the road for back-to-back road games after that massive win, against a Mississippi State team that could use a big win like this to strengthen their NCAA tournament resume and aim for a higher seed come March. I’ll take a shot on Mississippi State at home in this one.

I’m on the Georgia Bulldogs here. I get why Mississippi State could be worth a look if this game was at home for Mississippi State, as Georgia on the road has not been very good. However, the Georgia Bulldogs have been stellar at home with their lone loss coming in a 2-point game against the Auburn Tigers, who sans Johni Broome in that game, are still arguably the best team in the country. Mississippi State for my money is lucky to not be riding a seven-game losing skid coming into this game and I think Georgia at home is worth the look to get the job done. Give me Georgia.

Not ideal when going up against an aggressive and above average Mississippi State defense. Mississippi State has three road wins on the season and is a tough-minded team that’s not scared of anybody. Mississippi State is also a top-50 scoring offense. This just doesn’t feel like a game where South Carolina is going to get out of its funk. The line may be a little thick for a road team, but I’m laying the points with Mississippi State anyway.

Johni Broome is Out for Auburn

One major issue for Auburn heading into into this game is that their best player Johni Broome is out. Auburn in the last game faced off against South Carolina and they used their defense to come away with a 66-63 victory. At halftime, they were down 40-34 but they fought back in the second half to secure the win. Tahaad Pettiford had a strong game putting up 15 points, two rebounds, and two assists. 

Auburn is averaging 86.6 points while their defense is giving up 66.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 9th in the league while the defense is ranked 48th in the league. They are shooting 50.6 percent from the field which is 7th best in the league. Johni Broome is averaging 17.9 points while shooting 57.7 percent from the field. He is dealing with a left ankle sprain though and has been ruled out. Chad Baker-Mazara is averaging 12.7 points while shooting whole shooting 52.1 percent from the field. 

Can Mississippi State Bounce Back?

Mississippi State has played well this season, but they are coming off a disappointing loss. At halftime, they were down 49-44 to Kentucky, and in the second half they scored 46 points, but it wasn’t enough as they ended up losing 95-90. There were five different players that put up at least 10 points, but the defense has been a problem. The Bulldogs shot 45.1 percent from the field and 30 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Mississippi State is averaging 83.9 points while their defense is giving up 68.3 points per game. The offense is ranked 25th in the league while the defense is ranked 101st. They are averaging 64.5 field goal attempts per game, which is 20th in the league. They are averaging 10.06 steals per game which is 10th in the league. Josh Hubbard is averaging 17 points while shooting 42.1 percent from the field. After this game, Mississippi State will have a rivalry game at home against Ole Miss.

On a level playing field this is a game I probably take Auburn, but not having Johni Broome is a big loss for this team. Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting Preview

The Bulldogs’ season kicked off on a nice run, featuring victories over their first six games. Those wins came courtesy of West Georgia, Georgia State, Southeast Louisiana, Utah, SMU, and UNLV. Following their first loss of the season versus Butler on November 29, the Bulldogs hit another win streak that has lasted until now. Mississippi State has beaten Pittsburgh, Prairie View A&M, McNeese State, Central Michigan, Memphis, Bethune-Cookman, and South Carolina in succession over the last seven games for a 13-1 overall record this year.

In the South Carolina matchup back on Saturday, the Bulldogs didn’t have too many issues at all. Mississippi State was up by a downright dominant 43-18 first-half margin, then cruised the rest of the way on a 42-32 run for a big blowout win 85-50. Topping the scoring in that one was Josh Hubbard with 21 points, three boards, and two assists. Claudell Harris nearly doubled up with 17 points, nine rebounds, and two assists as well. Lots of bench players got in on the action, and that group was led by KeShawn Murphy and Riley Kugel, each of whom contributed 12 points with a combined 10 rebounds and four assists to boot.

Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Preview

Over on the Vanderbilt side, they also got off to a nice start with six straight wins to begin the season. The Commodores dispatched Maryland Eastern Shore, Southeast Missouri State, California, Jackson State, Nevada, and Seton Hall in those half-dozen outings. Vanderbilt would take their first (and only) loss of the season thus far versus Drake on November 24 but then got right back to winning. the next seven outings were all wins versus Tennessee Tech, Virginia Tech, TCU, the Citadel, Austin Peay, New Orleans, and LSU in succession.

Matched up against LSU in their Saturday outing, the Commodores were ahead by a fairly comfortable 34-27 margin by the break. Vanderbilt kept rolling on a 46-45 second half and finished off an 80-72 victory by the final horn. AJ Hoggard led the team with his 17 points, four assists, one rebound, and one steal. Both Jaylen Carey (eight rebounds; two assists; two steals) and MJ Collins (four rebounds; two steals) had 14 points off the bench apiece, and Jason Edwards chipped in with 12 points and two rebounds in 17 minutes of work on the court.

Vanderbilt vs Mississippi State Prediction

I’m going to try Mississippi State here. You could obviously make a case either way, though; this should be one of the highlights of the Tuesday college basketball slate and we’ll have a great matchup if both teams play well. In any case, the Bulldogs drilled a pretty darn good South Carolina team in their last outing, posting 56.5 percent shooting from the floor alongside 40 rebounds and 18 team assists. On defense, the Bulldogs held South Carolina to just 29.1 percent shooting overall and 10.5 percent (2-of-19) from outside. Mississippi State has now posted 77 or more points in all but one game so far this year, the outlier being a 66-63 win over McNeese.

As for Vanderbilt, they handled LSU in a tricky road matchup quite well. The Commodores shot 43.8 percent from the field with 37 rebounds and just nine turnovers in that one. The foul shooting (66.7 percent on 16-of-24) could have been better, though. Still, Vanderbilt is on a nice scoring tear themselves this year with 70 or more points in every game so far. This will probably be the Commodores’ toughest matchup of the season, and I like them to push the Bulldogs to the limit in a tight Mississippi State cover/win. Don’t miss this game.

Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Betting Preview

It’s been a tough year so far for the Delta Devils, to say the least. The losses continue to pile up, and the team is having major difficulties in scoring. Mississippi Valley State was only able to record a win over Mississippi University for Women in their first eight games. Otherwise, it was losses to Iowa State, Missouri, Texas, Kansas State, BYU, Utah, and UC Santa Barbara at that time. Following a win over Oakwood on December 2, the Delta Devils hit another losing skid. Defeats in the next four games came versus Liberty, North Texas, Tulsa, and LSU. That would give Mississippi Valley State a rough 2-11 run over their first 13 outings.

In Saturday’s game versus Alabama State, the Delta Devils went into the locker room with a 39-29 deficit at the break. Mississippi Valley State was outscored 45-26 the rest of the way, resulting in a blowout defeat 84-55. Leading the team during the losing effort was Alvin Stredic with 21 points and nine rebounds in 40 minutes on the court. Also spending 40 minutes of work was Donovan Sanders, who emerged from the game with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals to his credit. Arthur Tate posted seven points in 17 minutes, and leading bench scorer Greg Moore walked away with three points and two assists for his troubles.

Alabama A&M Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the Alabama A&M side, they got off to a nice start this year but they’ve similarly had major difficulties since then. The Bulldogs beat Oakwood, Arkansas Baptist, and Fisk in their first three games, then lost the next three versus Tennessee State, Georgia, and South Carolina State. Alabama A&M briefly clawed back above .500 with a November 23 win over Coastal Carolina, then hit the skids again. The next six games were all losses versus IUPUI, Lipscomb, Chattanooga, UAB, Samford, and Georgia Tech for a rough 4-9 start to the year.

Matched up against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, the Bulldogs finally got a much-needed victory, doing it in double-digit fashion. Alabama A&M was up 41-34 going into the second half, then finished off the run with a 48-45 stretch for an 89-79 win in the end. Tops in scoring for the team was Chad Moodie with 19 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Bilal Abdur-Rahman added 18 bench points with three assists and three steals, while Lorenzo Downey had 17 points with seven boards, one assist, and one steal in 30 minutes of work.

Why the Alabama A&M Bulldogs will win

I’ll go with Alabama A&M but the line’s probably too thick to mess with. Granted, this isn’t exactly the most exciting game on the schedule but it should be remotely competitive—at least initially. The Bulldogs shot well in their last outing versus AR-Pine Bluff, notching 49.2 percent from the field with 36 rebounds. The foul shooting was pretty ugly, though: 25-of-38 for 65.8 percent total. Alabama A&M also coughed up 18 turnovers, so it wasn’t a pretty game. Still, a win is a win, and Alabama A&M needed one. The Bulldogs had been below 68 points in four of their previous five outings. The bad news is that the Bulldogs have surrendered 79 or more points in seven straight games—a 1-6 stretch.

As for Mississippi Valley State, they shot just 35.1 percent from the field and 12.5 percent (2-of-16) from 3-point range in their latest loss to Alabama State. MS Valley State has posted fewer than 56 points in each installment of this current five-game losing streak, giving up 83 or more in each game as well. Alabama A&M should have plenty of opportunities here.

I’ll stay with Mississippi State here. The Bulldogs could use a livelier performance than what they generated against Prairie View, though. In that one Mississippi State shot a nice 55.6 percent from the field, but allowed 56.4 percent on the other side along with 12 turnovers for 19 Panthers points. Still, it was an important win after a huge upset over Pittsburgh. Mississippi State has 77 or more points in all nine games so far.

As for McNeese State, they they had zero issues versus LeTourneau in their last outing, shooting a nice 69.5 percent from the field with 30 rebounds. The Cowboys have been pretty choppy when it comes to scoring this year, though; they’ve been below 69 points in four of the last six games. It’ll take a big push in order to keep pace with the Bulldogs on Saturday. I don’t think the Cowboys will quite get there.

Butler Pulled it Out

It wasn’t the prettiest game on Thursday, but Butler was able to secure the 71-69 victory over Northwestern. Butler shot 46.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from behind the three-point line. Jahmyl Telfort had a strong game, putting up 23 points, five rebounds, and four assists. There were four different players that put up at least 10 points. Butler on the season is averaging 75.5 points while their defense is giving up 62.7 points per game. The offense is ranked 200th in the league while the defense is ranked 30th. Pierre Brooks II is averaging 16.6 points while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Mississippi State Dominated

Mississippi State dominated on Thursday against UNLV. At halftime, they were up 45-32 and in the second half, it was even better as they were able to dominate the victory. Jailen Bedford had a strong game putting up 13 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Two games ago against SMU, Mississippi State scored 84 points and they ended up cruising to the victory. There were five different players that put up at least 10 points. The Bulldogs on the season are averaging 86.3 points while their defense is giving up 65.8 points per game. The offense is ranked 31st in the league while the defense is ranked 69th. In this game, Mississippi State is going to need the defense to be good. If the defense struggles, Butler could still be around and win this game. Mississippi State will face Liberty and North Texas following this one.

Mississippi State vs Butler Prediction

Butler won on Thursday, but they didn’t look all that good, and I am not sure they are all that good. Mississippi State put on a show with the offense and defense on Thursday, and it’s going to be much of the same here. Butler’s offense is going to really struggle to get going here, and it will be Mississippi State that is going to cruise. Don’t be shocked when they win this game by 20 points.
