Both of these teams have had plenty of success in Big Ten play so far this season, but Purdue is very tough to play at home and I think their shooting advantage will be the difference. Iowa is Struggling

Should Iowa think about making some changes after this season? Maybe so, because so far they have had some major issues this season, and it looks like it’s going to be another year where they miss the NCAA Tournament. Two games ago against Ohio State they lost 82-65 and in the last game against Purdue they ended up losing 90-81. At halftime against Purdue they were tied, but in the second half they gave up 54 points and that led to the defeat. Iowa shot 51.7 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from behind the three-point line. They only shot 62.5 percent from the free-throw line, which led to the defeat. 

Iowa sits with a 13-9 record overall and they have gone 9-13 against the spread. The over is also 13-9 so far this season. Iowa is averaging 85.5 points while their defense is giving up 79 points per game. The offense is ranked 5th in the league while the defense is ranked 337th. As a team, they are shooting 50.07 percent from the floor. They like to push the pace, but their lack of any defensive success has hurt them.

Wisconsin is averaging 81.3 points and they are going to have no issue against this lackluster Iowa defense. There won’t be a lick of defense played here, and the over is going to cash here.

Indiana Has Issues

Indiana is having some major issues right now and they have won and lost three games in a row. Even the game they won four games ago was only by a point against Ohio State. Two games ago against Maryland, they ended up losing 79-78. In the last game against Purdue, Indiana scored 76 points, but the defense gave up 81 points and that led to the defeat. Even though they lost, Mackenzie Mgbako had a strong game putting up 25 points and five rebounds. There were four different players that finished with at least 13 points. 

Indiana comes into this game with a 14-8 record overall and they have gone 12-10 against the spread. Indiana is averaging 77.1 points while their defense is giving up 73.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 107th in the league while the defense is ranked 241st and in this game, the defense is going to need to be a whole lot better. Oumar Ballo is averaging 14.5 points while shooting 65.5 percent from the field.

This is a big game for Wisconsin as they don’t want to slip up. Two games ago against Maryland, they scored 6 points and they ended up losing by eight points. In the last game against Northwestern, they fought back in a big way and they were able to secure a 75-69 victory. Wisconsin is the more trustworthy team in my eyes, and while Maryland’s been better at home, which is where they are here, Wisconsin’s shown an ability to be solid wherever they’ve gone and I think the Badgers could at the very least compete here. I just can’t trust Maryland in this one to be able to pull away here and I think at the absolute worst, Wisconsin will keep this one close if they don’t win it outright. Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview

The Cornhuskers got off to a great start this year and were sitting pretty by the 14-game mark. Nebraska has since fallen on hard times due to a string of tricky Big Ten matchups, however, and they’re currently mired in a five-game losing streak. Nebraska’s season kicked off on a 6-1 run with a lone loss to St. Mary’s amid wins over UT Rio Grande Valley, Bethune-Cookman, Fairleigh Dickinson, Creighton, South Dakota, and North Florida. Following a loss to Michigan State, the Cornhuskers took out Indiana, Murray State, Hawaii, Oregon State, Southern, and UCLA in succession. Since then, however, the aforementioned five-game losing streak has kicked in. Those defeats have come at the hands of Iowa, Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland, and USC in succession, giving Nebraska a 12-7 overall record through 19 games this year.

In the USC matchup back on Wednesday, the Cornhuskers came out of halftime looking up at a 33-31 advantage on the scoreboard. Nebraska’s edge didn’t last though, as the team was outscored 47-40 the rest of the way during a rough loss of 78-73 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Juwan Gary with 27 points and three rebounds. Brice Williams added 17 points with four boards, two assists, and two steals. Connor Essegian came off the bench for 15 points and one rebound in 25 minutes of work on the floor as well.

Wisconsin Badgers Betting Preview

Over on the Wisconsin side, they came out of the gate with a very nice run themselves. The Badgers had a tough stretch briefly in early December, but they’ve done quite well overall since then. Wisconsin opened on an 8-0 stretch, taking out Holy Cross, Montana State, App State, Arizona, UT Rio Grande Valley, UCF, Pitt, and Chicago State. The Badgers would hit a losing streak after that (their only instance of consecutive losses so far), falling to Michigan, Marquette, and Illinois in succession. A win streak over Butler, Detroit, Iowa, Rutgers, Minnesota, Ohio State, and USC came next, then a tight loss to UCLA this past week that gave the Badgers a 15-4 overall record at the 19-game mark so far this year.

Matched up against UCLA on Tuesday, the Badgers held a five-point edge going into the break. Wisconsin was outscored 49-42 the rest of the way however and ended up taking a tough loss 85-83. Leading the team in scoring was John Tonje with 24 points, five boards, and two assists. John Blackwell added 23 points with four rebounds and four assists, while Steven Crowl also finished in double-digits with 11 points, five boards, and three assists.

Wisconsin vs Nebraska Prediction

I’m going to stay with Wisconsin, but you could call this one either way. It should be a solid matchup. The Badgers shot very well (51 percent) and had a 28-25 rebounding edge against UCLA in their latest road loss. Wisconsin’s issues were with turnovers (13 for 10 Bruins points) and shooting percentage allowed (50.9) as they lost steam in the second half. The good news for Wisconsin is that they’ve still been scoring well. They’ve got 70 or more points in all but one game this season (64 in a three-point loss to Michigan).

As for Nebraska, they were outmuscled on the boards 36-31 (12-6 offensive) and had 11 turnovers for 16 Trojans points in their latest loss to USC. The Cornhuskers have given up 69 or more points in each installment of this current five-game losing streak, so Wisconsin should be able to notch a solid total here. Should be a fun game to watch regardless of the outcome.

More often than not, this Badgers team would play sound fundamental, and defensive-minded basketball, but now, the offense is loading up and putting up points in bunches. Ohio State’s had its big moments here and there, but the Buckeyes also tend to leave a lot to be desired at times, especially on the road, and I think that Wisconsin takes care of business at home to snag the win and cover here.

Wisconsin Badgers Betting Preview

The Badgers’ season kicked off on a very nice run with victories in each of the team’s first eight outings. Those wins came courtesy of Holy Cross, Montana State, Appalachian State, Arizona, Texas Rio Grande Valley, Central Florida, Pittsburgh, and Chicago State. A three-game losing streak ensued after that, however. Those losses were versus Michigan, Marquette, and Illinois in succession. Since then Wisconsin has gotten back on track with three straight wins. The victories in that time have come courtesy of Butler, Detroit, and Iowa for an 11-3 overall record.

In the Iowa game back on Friday, Wisconsin came out of the locker room with a 54-43 edge. The Badgers posted a stellar 62 points from there across the second half, resulting in a dominant victory 116-85 in the end. Topping the team was John Blackwell with 32 points, eight boards, and five assists. Nolan Winter added 18 points with eight rebounds in 25 minutes of work, and Steven Crowl had 14 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Kamari McGee topped the bench players with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists in 21 minutes.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Betting Preview

Over on the Rutgers side, they also started out the year on a winning streak—albeit a shorter one. The Knights beat Wagner, Saint Peter’s, Monmouth, and Merrimack, then fell to Kennesaw State before another win over Notre Dame in overtime. A losing streak versus tough teams in Alabama, Texas A&M, and Ohio State came after that, then a couple of wins over Penn State and Seton Hall consecutively. Since then Rutgers is 1-2 over their last trio with a win over Columbia sandwiched between losses to Princeton and Indiana for an 8-6 run so far.

Matched up against Indiana on Thursday, the Scarlet Knights held a 41-34 deficit by the end of the first half. Rutgers didn’t end up getting any closer on a 43-40 second half and would fall by the end of the game 84-74. Ace Bailey did the lion’s share of the work with over half the team’s scoring on 39 points, eight rebounds, four blocks, and one steal. Jamichael Davis was the next-closest player with nine points and three assists, while Jeremiah Williams had eight points with eight rebounds and three assists. Tyson Acuff led the bench scoring seven points, two rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes on the floor during the defeat.

I’ll stay with Wisconsin. The Badgers are looking good during this current win streak and dispatched a good Iowa team rather easily in their last outing. Wisconsin posted a blistering 64.5 percent shooting from the field in that one along with 21-of-31 (67.7 percent) from outside and 15-of-17 (88.2 percent) from the line. The 37-21 rebounding edge helped as well, but Wisconsin also coughed up 13 turnovers for 21 Hawkeyes points. Still, that makes 74 or more points in five straight games. Granted, the Badgers are giving up quite a bit on the other side lately as well: 74 or more points in four of those five.

As for Rutgers, they faced a tough opponent in Indiana during their last outing and came away with a spotty loss. The Knights shot 44.3 percent from the floor in that one with a rough 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) from the line and a 48-36 rebounding discrepancy. Their 11 turnovers resulted in 19 Hoosiers points, and only one player finished in double-figures (or made much of a difference at all scoring-wise). Rutgers is going to have their hands full here as well, and I don’t think the Knights will keep much of a pace.
