Clemson Looks to Build on Last Game

Clemson sure looked impressive in the game against North Carolina. Clemson scored 85 points while the defense gave up only 65 points and that was enough for the victory. At halftime against North Carolina they had scored 49 points and they never looked back on the way to the victory. Clemson shot 50 percent from the field and 48 percent from behind the three point line. Viktor Lakhin had a strong game putting up 22 points and six rebounds. There were three different players that put up at least 16 points. Two games ago against Duke they were able to secure the 77-71 victory. 

Clemson currently sits with a 20-5 record overall, and they have gone 15-10 against the spread. Clemson is averaging 77.6 points while their defense is giving up 67.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 91st in the league while the defense is ranked 52nd. Clemson needs the offense to get out to a fast start. Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview

Florida State has had a pretty good season so far. The Seminoles have remained consistent, as they’ve got just one instance of consecutive losses through 19 outings. During their opening 7-1 run, FSU lost to only Florida. Otherwise it was wins over Northern Kentucky, Rice, Tarleton State, Hofstra, Temple. UMass and Western Carolina. After losses to LSU and NC State, Florida State hit a 4-1 run with wins over Tulane, Winthrop, Syracuse and Miami around a lone loss to Louisville. Since then it’s been a 2-2 run for the Seminoles. They’ve got losses to Clemson and California sandwiched around wins versus Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech during that quartet. The result has been a 13-6 overall record through the first 19 games of the year.

In the California matchup on Wednesday, Florida State trailed by four points coming into the second half. The Seminoles were outscored 40-35 the rest of the way and limped to the loss 77-68 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Jamir Watkins with 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Malique Ewin managed to double up in the defeat, notching 16 points with 10 boards and two assists and a block in 28 minutes of work.

Stanford Cardinal Betting Preview

Over on the Stanford side, they’ve got a pretty spotty run in the books stretching from late November into January. Outside of that however, the Cardinal have been on a pretty solid stretch all season. Stanford beat Denver, Cal State Fullerton, Northern Arizona, UC Davis, Norfolk State and Santa Clara in their first six outings. losses to Grand Canyon and Cal Poly came next, then wins over Utah Valley, Cal and Merrimack. The Cardinal would post a rough 2-4 stretch over their next six outings, beating only Virginia Tech and Virginia alongside losses to Oregon, Clemson, Pitt and Wake Forest otherwise. Since then it’s been a pair of wins over North Carolina and Miami though, giving the Cardinal a 13-6 overall record this year as well.

Matched up against Miami on Wednesday, the Cardinal held a dominant 37-21 edge by the break. Stanford kept it up in the second half on a 51-30 run and took the eventual victory 88-51. Leading the team in scoring during the win was Maxime Raynaud with 28 points and 12 rebounds alongside two steals, two blocks and two assists. Jaylen Blakes notched 12 points with four assists, while Chisom Okpara led the bench players with 12 points and four assists.

Why the Stanford Cardinal will win

• Stanford has won 11 of its last 12 games at Maples Pavilion.
• Florida State has lost four of its last five road games.
• Stanford has won the first half in 11 of its last 12 games at Maples Pavilion against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Stanford vs Florida State Prediction

I’m staying with Stanford. This should be a pretty good matchup if both teams play to their capabilities, though. The Cardinal played a great game versus a struggling Miami squad in their last outing, shooting a nice 52.3 percent from the field. Stanford also notched a 42-32 rebounding edge and scored a whopping 28 points off 15 Hurricanes turnovers. During this current 4-1 run, Stanford has hit 70 or more points in all four wins while giving up fewer than 66 points in three of those matchups.

As for Florida State, they held California to just 37.7 percent from the field in their latest loss. The Seminoles shot a tepid 41.9 percent themselves however, and gave up 10 turnovers for 18 Bears points. The good news is that FSU is scoring well these days, with 68 or more points in all but one game so far this year (57 versus Clemson). I like a high total in this matchup, but in the end I think Stanford pulls off the home cover. Should be quite the entertaining matchup to watch if all goes well on both sides, though.

Florida State looks to be figuring it out, and they have won two games in a row. Two games ago against Pittsburgh, they were able to secure the 82-70 victory and in the last game against Georgia Tech, they won 91-78. At halftime, they were up 37-24 and even though the defense gave up 54 points, they were still able to hang onto the comfortable victory. Florida State shot 52.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Florida State sits with a 13-5 record overall and they have gone 12-6 against the spread. Florida State on the season is averaging 78.7 points while their defense is giving up 70.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 89th in the league while the defense is ranked 143rd. This is a team that is a strong offensive team, but their defense at times has been a major issue and if they want to find success here, the defense is going to need to be good. Jamir Watkins is averaging 18.6 points while shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from behind the three-point line.

California Looks to Build on Last Game

California sits with a 9-9 record and they have gone 9-8-1 against the spread. California in the last game faced off North Carolina State and they were able to secure the 65-62 victory. At halftime, they were up 31-29 and in the second half, they were able to hold on for the win. Jovan Blackshear Jr put up 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists. There were five different players that put up at least 10 points. Two games ago against North Carolina, they scored 53 points, but the defense gave up 79 points and that led to the defeat. 

California on the season is averaging 75 points while their defense is giving up 74.9 points per game. The offense is ranked 181st in the league while the defense is ranked 281st. Andrej Stojakovic has been the top player for this team averaging 18.9 points while shooting 44 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from behind the three-point line. California will face Miami following this one.

I really have been impressed with Florida State so far as of late and they are going to continue that success here. Florida State is averaging 78.7 points per game and they are going to really find some offensive access here. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Betting Preview

The Yellow Jackets have had a couple of runs this year featuring solid play, but overall it’s been a very choppy year for them. Georgia Tech opened the season on a 4-3 stretch with wins over West Georgia, Texas Southern, Charleston Southern and Central Arkansas. The losses otherwise were versus North Florida, Georgia and Cincinnati. The Jackets would then hit a 1-4 stretch with a lone win over UMBC amid losses to Oklahoma, North Carolina, Northwestern and Duke. Following a three-game win streak over Alabama A&M, Notre Dame and Boston College, the Yellow Jackets lost three straight versus Syracuse, SMU and Clemson for a pretty rough 8-10 overall record this season so far.

In the Clemson game back on Tuesday, the Yellow Jackets entered the second half holding a 36-25 deficit. Georgia Tech kept the pace from there on a 34-34 run, but eventually took a double-digit loss 70-59 in the end. Leading the team in scoring with a double-double was Baye Ndongo with 14 points, 12 boards and three steals. Naithan George added 13 points with four assists and three rebounds, while Jaeden Mustaf came off the bench for 12 points in the loss.

Over on the Florida State side, they entered the year with a nice run and have remained pretty steady overall. The Seminoles have just one instance of consecutive losses so far. FSU opened on a 7-1 run with a loss to Florida amid wins over Northern Kentucky, Rice, Tarleton State, Hofstra, Temple, UMass and Western Carolina. After losses to LSU and NC State in the next pair, the Seminoles have hit a 5-2 run in their last seven outings. The only losses in that time came versus Louisville and Clemson. Otherwise it was wins over Tulane, Winthrop, Syracuse, Miami and Pittsburgh, resulting in a 12-5 overall record through the first 17 games of the year.

Matched up against Pitt in the Wednesday game, the Seminoles came out of the locker room facing a 28-23 advantage on the scoreboard. Florida State got better from there on a 54-47 run and took the convincing win 82-70 in the end. Tops in scoring was Jamir Watkins with 26 points and eight rebounds with one assist and one steal. Malique Ewin added 18 points with 13 boards and three blocks, while Chandler Jackson had 13 points, four assists and two rebounds in 27 minutes. Justin Thomas led the bench players with five points and two steals in the win.

I’m going to stay with Florida State. The Seminoles do have a few things to clean up following their win over Pittsburgh, though. FSU shot very well from the lien (84.8 percent on 28-of-23) in that one, but otherwise coughed up 15 turnovers for 20 Panthers points. The shooting from the floor (42.9 percent) wasn’t horrendous, but could have been better. In any case, Florida State has scored 80 or more points in each of their last three wins, and bounced back well after a limp 57-point showing in a blowout loss at Clemson last weekend.

As for Georgia Tech, they shot just 35.2 percent from the field in their loss to the aforementioned Tigers, giving away 14 turnovers for 15 Clemson points along the way. The Yellow Jackets have been below 60 points in two of the last three games (all three were losses), so it shouldn’t be too difficult for FSU to keep a lid on the scoring here. The Seminoles should control this one from wire to wire if all goes well.

Pittsburgh Panthers Betting Preview

The Panthers have been a pretty consistent team overall this year, but they’ve got a couple of spotty stretches in the books. Pittsburgh opened the season on a 6-0 run, taking out Radford, Murray State, Gardner-Webb, West Virginia, VMI, and LSU in that time. Following a 1-2 stretch that featured a win over Ohio State in between losses to Wisconsin and Mississippi State, the Panthers got back to winning. Pitt would take out Virginia Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Sam Houston, California, and Stanford in the next five games before consecutive losses versus Duke and Louisville in the next two games for a 12-4 overall record in their first 16 outings this year.

In the Louisville matchup back on Saturday, the Panthers entered the second half sporting a 35-34 deficit. Pitt didn’t end up getting any closer than that on a 47-44 run and eventually lost 82-78. Leading the team in the defeat was Jaland Lowe with 24 points, six assists, and two rebounds with one steal. Ishmael Leggett added 16 points with three rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while Damian Dunn came off the bench to contribute 15 points with eight boards in 30 minutes of action. Cameron Corden chipped 11 points and five rebounds.

Since then in the last three games, Florida State has taken out Syracuse and Miami ahead of a loss to Clemson, giving the Seminoles an 11-5 overall record through 16 games so far this season.

In the Clemson matchup on Saturday, the Seminoles held a 36-29 disadvantage in the locker room. Florida State was drilled in the second half 41-28, falling even further behind in an eventual blowout loss 77-57. Malique Ewin was the top team scorer in the losing effort, notching 15 points with nine boards and a block. Jamir Watkins added 11 points with three rebounds and two steals as well. The only other Florida State player in double-figures was Jerry Deng, who came off the bench to provide 11 points with one rebound in 17 minutes.

I’ll lean toward Florida State here. The Seminoles really need a good bounce-back effort following their loss to Clemson, though. Perhaps getting back on the home court will help. In any case, FSU looked pretty listless in that loss to the Tigers, especially in the second half. The Seminoles were outmuscled on the boards 31-28 and had 12 turnovers while giving up 48.3 percent shooting on the other side. The 57 points were pretty uncharacteristic of Florida State, for what it’s worth. It was their lowest points total of the season so far.

As for Pitt, they didn’t play terribly in their latest loss to Louisville—outside of getting blitzed 44-31 (17-5 offensive) on the boards, that is. The Panthers kept the turnovers to a minimum (nine) and shot a nice 20-of-22 from the line (90.9 percent). That makes 78 or more points in five of the last six games (a 4-2 run) for the Panthers. I like this one to finish as a pretty high points total as well, with Florida State eking it out in the end. Should be a fun one to watch.

Can Clemson Bounce Back?

Clemson had been playing well, but they really struggled in the last game. Clemson scored only 64 points against the Louisville Cardinals, and that led to the 74-64 defeat. Chase Hunter had a strong game putting up 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists but that wasn’t enough as they ended up losing. There were four different players that put up at least 10 points; Clemson is averaging 77.6 points while the defense is giving up 67.3 points per game. The offense is ranked 118th in the league while the defense is ranked 79th. Guard Chase Hunter is averaging 17.2 points while shooting 49.7 percent from the field and 43.7 percent from behind the three point line. 

Big Game for Florida State

It’s a big game for Florida State as they have won two sgames in a row and are gaining confidence. Two games ago against Syracuse they secured the 90-74 vicory and in the last game against Miami they were able to secure the 80-665 victory. Malique Ewin had a strong game putting up 20 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. There were three different players that put up at least 10 points, and the used a ton of players with almost everyone on the roster getting at least a minute of play time. 

Florida State on the season is averaging 79.1 points while their defense is giving up 69.2 poins per game. The offense is ranked 87th in the league while the defense is ranked 123rd. They are shooting 47.3 percent from the field which is 76th in the league. To find success in this game the offense is going to need to get out to a fast start. Guard Jamir Watkins has been the top player for this team averaging 18.7 points while shooting 44.6 percent from the field. 

Clemson vs Florida State Prediction 

Florida State has won two straight games and they have all kinds of confidence heading into this game. Florida State is averaging 79.1 points per game and they are going to have no issue running up the score here. This Clemson defense is going to have some major issues and that is going to be the difference here as Florida State is going to get the job done here. Florida State has won the last three games played between the two teams. Last March it was the Seminoles that were able to secure the 83-75 victory. 

Miami is Awful

Miami has already made a coaching change this season but that hasn’t led to more success. In the last game against Virginia Tech, Miami scored 85 points but it wasn’t enough as the defense gave up 86 points. Miami shot 58.9 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from behind the three-point line, but it wasn’t enough with the defense really struggling. Matthew Cleveland had a strong game putting up 21 points, three assists, and two rebounds.  There were three different players that put up at least 12 points.

Miami is averaging 78.4 points while their defense is giving up 75.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 108th in the league while the defense is ranked 284th. They are shooting 48.6 percent from the field which is 45th in the league. Matthew Cleveland is averaging 12.7 points while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from behind the three-point line. Miami’s defense is going to need to be better. 

Florida State Looks for Second Straight Win

Florida State lost a couple of games ago against Louisville but in the last game against Syracuse, they were able to bounce back in a big way. Florida State scored 90 points and they ended up winning by 16 points. In the second half, they scored 54 points and they ended up cruising to the victory. There were four different players that pu up at least 14 points. Daqan Davis had a strong game putting up 18 points, three rebounds, and one assist. They also shot 53.6 percent from the field. 

Florida State is averaging 79.1 points while their defense is giving up 66.5 points per game. The offense is ranked 95th in the league while the defense is ranked 133rd. They do a good job of getting to the free throw line and they are averaging 18.2 attempts from the charity stripe a game. Jamir Watkins has been the top player this year and is currently averaging 19.3 points while shooting 44 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from behind the three-point line. Florida State will meet Clemson, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, and California after this game.

Syracuse Orange Betting Preview

The Orange kicked off their season with a string of three straight wins. Those came courtesy of Le Moyne, Colgate, and Youngstown State. Syracuse would hit a rough 1-4 stretch after that. The only win in that quintet came versus Cornell; otherwise, it was losses versus Texas, Texas Tech, Tennessee, and Notre Dame. Following a win over Albany on December 10, Syracuse has since gone 1-3. The win came over Bucknell. The losses came versus Georgetown, Maryland, and Wake Forest for a 6-7 overall record.

In the Wake Forest matchup this past Tuesday, the Orange were looking at a 36-34 deficit by halftime. Syracuse limped to an 81-71 loss after a 45-37 second half. Leading the team in scoring were starter Jaquan Carlos with 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists, and also Lucas Taylor who notched 16 points with five rebounds in 36 minutes off the bench. Also in double-figures off the bench was Kyle Cuffe with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Eddie Lampkin added eight points with 10 rebounds and one assist as well.

Over on the Florida State side, they kicked off the season with a very nice 7-1 run. The only blemish over those eight games was versus Florida on November 15 in an 87-74 defeat. Otherwise, it was victories over Northern Kentucky, Rice, Tarleton State, Hofstra, Temple, UMass, and Western Carolina in that time for the Seminoles. Following a pair of losses versus LSU and NC State, the Seminoles got back on track with a pair of wins over Tulane and Winthrop. In their last game, however, Florida State fell back into the loss column versus Louisville.

Way back on December 21 versus the Cardinals, the Seminoles came out of halftime with a 36-34 deficit. Florida State got even worse from there, giving up 54 second-half points for a 90-76 defeat. Leading the team in scoring was Jamir Watkins with 25 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Malique Ewin added 17 points with three rebounds and three assists, while Daquan Davis had nine points with two rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes of work. Tops off the bench was Alier Maluk, who spent 10 minutes on the court for five points.

I’ll lean toward Florida State here. The Seminoles need to get back on track after a loss to a pretty good Louisville team in their last outing, however. It’s also been quite a while (December 21) since Florida State has been on the court, so a hot start here would be a great sign. In any case, back in that Louisville game, the Seminoles shot quite well on 52.7 percent from the field and 8-of-20 (40 percent) from 3-point range. Florida State gave up 50.9 percent from the field on the other side, however, as well as 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from outside and a 29-23 rebounding deficit.

The good news for the Seminoles is that their offense has been quite good all year long. Florida State has posted 72 or more points in every game so far. That said, they’re also prone to giving up big points totals to good offenses. The Seminoles have surrendered 84 or more points in three of the last five games—and all three were losses.

As for Syracuse, they faded in the second half during their last game versus Wake Forest and ended up shooting just 37.5 percent from the field with 18 turnovers. Syracuse is normally a pretty good scoring team this year though, so we could very well have a decent total in this one. All things considered, however, I like Florida State to pick up the cover in the end.

It feels like we’re getting a free bucket with the better team that’s in the better form. I’ll gladly side with the Noles.

NC State Wolfpack Betting Preview

Over on the NC State side, they beat USC Upstate, Presbyterian, Coastal Carolina, Colgate, and William & Mary in their first five. The Wolfpack has since lost to Purdue, BYU, and Texas in succession over the last trio.

FSU was strong on the boards (45 rebounds) but also coughed up 14 turnovers for 20 Tigers points. The good news is that Florida State has posted 72 or more points in every outing so far.

As for NC State, they were outmuscled 37-30 on the glass by Texas in their last outing. The Wolfpack have now lost three straight, scoring below 62 points in each game. Hitting that 70-point mark Saturday would be a good sign for NC State though, as that would also likely mean a high total in this one.

UMass Minutemen Betting Preview

UMass started out on a pretty rough run this year, but most of their losses were pretty close. The Minutemen beat New Hampshire 103-74, then fell to West Virginia 75-69, Louisiana Tech 76-66, and Hofstra 75-71 in the next three games.

I’ll lean toward Florida State. The Seminoles didn’t have a ton of issues with a middling Temple team in their Friday matchup, shooting 45.9 percent from the field with 39 rebounds and 12 assists. FSU did cough up 15 turnovers though, and went a measly 15-of-24 (62.5 percent) from the line. Still, given the fact that Florida State has hit 72 or more points in every game so far, they should score pretty well on Sunday.

As for UMass, they didn’t shoot particularly well Saturday, posting 39.3 percent from the field and 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from 3-point range. The Minutemen have posted 151 points over the last pair, but they’ve also allowed 164 combined points in that time as well. Florida State should be able to get their offense going without too much issue here.

Temple Owls Betting Preview

The Temple Owls are 3-1 this season after they lost to Boston College by a score of 72-69 in their last game. Temple just lost to BC by three points in their last game, with all three of their wins coming against lesser teams. Florida Gators Betting Preview

The Gators have three games in the bag so far this year—all double-digit wins. In the opener versus South Florida, Florida took a 98-83 victory. Last Thursday the Gators were able to follow that up with an 81-60 win over Jacksonville.

On Monday versus Grambling State, the Gators didn’t have too much trouble. Florida was up 43-28 by halftime, then hit 43 more points on the way to an 86-62 win. Leading the scoring was Rueben Chinyelu with 14 points, and three other players notched 12 points apiece.

Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview

Over on the Florida State side, they’ve kicked off the season with three straight wins as well. The Seminoles beat Northern Kentucky 74-62 in their opener. Game two was closer but still a victory 73-65 on the road versus Rice.

Matched up against Tarleton State on Tuesday, the Seminoles held a modest five-point lead in the locker room. Florida State hit a 39-24 run from there, however, and took the blowout win 72-52. Daquan Davis was tops on nine points and three assists.

Florida State vs Florida Prediction

I’ll stay with Florida. The Gators haven’t really been tested yet this season, but the results so far have been as expected. In the Grambling State win, Florida hit 45.3 percent from the field and 80.8 percent (21-of-26) from the line alongside a 45-24 rebounding edge and 13 team assists. The 12 turnovers were really the only sour spot in a relatively easy win.

As for Florida State, they played a very well-balanced game versus Tarleton State. Oddly enough, no player finished with double-digit points. That said, it was a good opportunity to get minutes in the book for everyone on the roster. Florida State had 17 turnovers and shot miserably (19 percent on 4-of-21) from 3-point range, though. I don’t think they’ll keep a cover pace on Florida—even at home.
