Detroit locked up the NFC North and the #1 seed in the NFC with this victory. 

Prior to that game, the Lions defeated the 49ers by a score of 40-34 and the Bears by a score of 34-17. Detroit has only lost two games so far this year, which came against Buffalo by a score of 48-42 and Tampa Bay by a score of 20-16. The Detroit offense has scored 33.2 points per game with 263.2 passing yards and 146.4 rushing yards per game, while the defense has allowed 20.1 points per game this season. The Commanders outgained Tampa Bay by a total of 350-284, won the turnover battle 1-0, and went 8-15 on third down in the game. Jayden Daniels threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns, while Terry McLaurin caught seven passes for 89 yards and one score in the game. 

Prior to that win, the Commanders defeated the Cowboys by a score of 23-19 and the Falcons by a score of 30-24. Detroit has the highest-scoring offense in the NFL, but their defense is dealing with injuries and is not great. Washington should find success against this Detroit defense, but they need to be close to perfect, as they most likely won’t get some of the stops they got against Tampa Bay. You can make a case for either side, as these are two legit contenders playing well and they’ve both covered 11 games. The Detroit Lions are simply getting the edge because they’re at home. I have to side with the Vikings and the free field goal. The Vikings have been underdogs three times this season, all three games in September, and they won all three games outright. The Vikings are 4-0 SU and ATS in their last 4 games. The Vikings are a top-10 team in scoring offense and scoring defense. I just have a hard to time turning down free points with a team this good.

A battle for the NFC North, it should be a good one regardless. I’m still getting points wherever I can get them.

Detroit comes into this matchup still controlling their own destiny for the one seed in the NFC, but they could lock it up with a win here and a Minnesota loss against Green Bay. The Lions continue to have the best scoring offense in the NFL, but their defense is a big question mark, especially with all of their injuries. San Francisco has had a disappointing season and they have lost five of their last six games, but they are 4-4 at home this year. We have seen this 49ers defense allow at least 29 points in three of their last five games, which is a concern against this Lions offense. This will probably be a higher-scoring game with neither defense playing very well, but I like the Lions offense to make a few more plays and get the cover.

Looking closer at the data just presented, in the Buffalo Bills victory over the Lions just noted, Jahmyr Gibbs compiled a massive 28.4 Draftkings points. What did we learn? The data just presented tells us that Jahmyr Gibbs is playing outstanding football entering this week’s matchup with the Chicago Bears.

I certainly like Jahmyr Gibbs from a general matchup perspective. Why? The Chicago Bears have had issues containing opposing running backs this season. Let me be more specific. Through 14 games played in the 2024 NFL regular season, the Chicago Bears are ranked a rather abysmal 28th in total Draftkings points allowed a game (24.7) to the running back position. Keep in mind that the NFL has 32 teams in the entire league. Having stated that, being ranked 28th in any defensive category is clearly not good.

In my view, Jahmyr Gibbs is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in this NFL regular season game. For that specific reason, I am backing Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs at the captain position for this one game Draftkings NFL Showdown slate.

Jameson Williams, Wide Receiver, Detroit Lions $7,000

In addition to Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receiver Jameson Williams has been a key contributor to the Detroit Lions offense in 2024. In the 12 games that Williams has played for the Detroit Lions in the 2024 NFL regular season, Lions starting quarterback Jaed Goff has targeted Williams 68 times. In those 68 targets just noted, Williams amassed 42 receptions, 747 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns.

The Chicago Bears are 4-10 this season after they lost to Minnesota by a score of 30-12 in their last game. Chicago trailed 13-0 at the half and couldn’t find the end zone until late in the fourth quarter. The Bears were outgained by a total of 329-284, tied the turnover battle at one, and went 1-12 on third down in the game. Caleb Williams threw for 191 yards and one touchdown, while Keenan Allen caught six passes for 82 yards and one score in the game. 

Prior to that loss, the Bears lost seven games in a row, with four of them coming by three points or fewer. The Chicago offense has scored 19.0 points per game with 181.9 passing yards and 106.4 rushing yards per game, while the defense has allowed 22.0 points per game this season. Caleb Williams has completed 61.9% of his passes for 2,937 yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while DJ Moore has caught 76 passes for 758 yards and five scores. 

Detroit Lions Betting Preview

The Detroit Lions are 12-2 this year after they lost to Buffalo by a score of 48-42 in their last game. Detroit trailed 35-14 in the third quarter, but they did come back and make it a game late. The Lions were outgained by a total of 559-521, lost the turnover battle 1-0, and went 6-13 on third down in the game. Jared Goff threw for 494 yards and five touchdowns, while Amon-Ra St. Brown caught 14 passes for 193 yards and one score in the loss. 

Prior to that game, the Lions won 11 games in a row, with six of them coming by double digits. Buffalo Bills Betting Preview

The Bills hit a 3-2 opening stretch this year, taking losses to the Ravens and Texans. Buffalo would go on a winning streak after that however, beating the Jets, Titans, Seahawks, Dolphins, Colts, Chiefs, and 49ers in the next seven games.

In their Week 14 game versus the Rams, the Bills gave up double-digit points in both the second and third quarters during a tough loss 44-42. Josh Allen threw for 342 yards and three scores while also leading the rush on 10 carries, 82 yards, and three more touchdowns.

Detroit Lions Betting Preview

Over on the Lions’ side, they’ve hit a stellar 12-1 run in their first 13 games. Detroit beat the Rams, Cardinals, Seahawks, Cowboys, Vikings, Titans, Packers, Texans, Jaguars, Colts, Bears, and Packers again in succession during that time.

In last Thursday’s matchup with the Packers, the Lions were outscored 24-17 in the second half but still managed to hold on for a 34-31 victory. QB Jared Goff finished with 283 yards, three scores, and a pick. Tops in receiving was Jameson Williams with five catches for 80 yards.

I’ll probably go with the Bills here. We should have a pretty great matchup regardless, but a little bit of the luster has worn off thanks to Buffalo’s loss last weekend. In that one, the Bills gave up 457 total yards (320 passing) and 28 first downs. The offense didn’t really get moving until the fourth quarter (21 points) either. Still, the Bills have now scored 30 or more points in seven straight games.

As for the Lions, in their last game, they mustered 391 total yards (280 passing) and 27 first downs against a good Green Bay team in a pretty tight win. Detroit is now averaging 32.1 points per game and giving up 18.0 on the other side. That said, three of the Lions’ last five wins have been by just three points each (against Houston, Chicago, and Green Bay). Detroit will get the advantage of rest, preparation, and home field coming into this one so Buffalo is going to have to play some very good football in order to cover/win. I think the Bills can do it, though. Should be a fun one to check out.

The Detroit Lions are going to blow out the Green Bay Packers here. When these two teams faced off on November 3rd, the Lions went on the road and were able to beat the Green Bay Packers 24-14. Jared Goff is going to have another big game here, and the Packers aren’t going to have any answer. The Lions are going to go over the 24 point mark here, and the Lions are going to come out top. 

Josh Jacobs Anytime Touchdown Scorer -155

I am not laying -155 on an anytime touchdown scorer in an individual bet, but in this parlay they have value. Josh Jacobs has found the end zone in each of the last three games. In the last game, Jacobs only had 43 yards, but he still found the end zone once. Jacobs is going to find some success against the Packers defense, and find the end zone. 

San LaPorta Under 3.5 Receptions -110

Sam LaPorta is not going to have another big game here. Each of the last four games, LaPorta has finished with three runs or less. In the last game against the Chicago Bears, LaPorta finished with three catches for only six yards. In the last game against the Green Bay Packers he finished with two catches for three yards. LaPorta is not going to have a good game here, and will finish with three catches or less. 

Detroit Lions Over 3.5 Touchdowns -110

The Detroit Lions offense is going to put on a show here with the offense. I just not sold on this Packers defense, and with thier lack of defense, they are going to struggle to defend here. The Lions are going to score at least four touchdowns. I think the Lions will finish with at least 35 points.
