I’m not running to the window to back either the Elks or Stampeders in their current form, but seeing Calgary as a favorite is nuts. The Stampeders have done nothing well this season and haven’t won a game in over two months. The Elks have beaten the Stampeders twice this season already, and their scoring offense that’s best in the league does give them the edge. The Stamps are favored simply because they’re at home, and I’m just not buying it. Give me the free points with the Elks in a game they could win outright.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders put together back to back nice wins, and they have a defense that travels. This game is far more important to the Roughriders in terms of potential playoff hopes. The Roughriders are in better form and have more on the line. I’ll lay the field goal.

The Elks started the season with 7 straight losses for a reason and while he’s played well lately, McLeod Bethel-Thompson did lose his starting job to Trey Ford for a reason. The Montreal Alouettes are not only 9-1 SU, but they’re 7-3 ATS, which includes 4 straight covers. The Alouettes are an above average team on both sides of the ball, and they shouldn’t be a team you’re excited to step in front of. The Alouettes haven’t had much success as massive favorites, but I’m laying the points anyway.

In the seven games that Montreal Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo has played in the 2024 CFL regular season, Fajardo tallied 1,689 passing yards, ten passing touchdowns, 142 rushing yards, and one rushing touchdown.

It is noteworthy that these two teams met earlier in the season. Who prevailed? How did Fajardo perform in the game? Let’s look at the relevant game data to answer that question. In the Montreal Alouettes 23-20 victory over the Edmonton Els earlier this year, talented Montreal Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo accumulated 269 passing yards, two touchdowns, and added 27 rushing yards.

I certainly like Cody Fajardo’s matchup in this CFL contest. Why? Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo draws an Edmonton Elks defense that has had issues defending opposing offenses all season. Let me be more specific. With that said, this is a game between teams with a combined record of 4-14, and I’m not eager to lay points with either side. Also, Tre Ford is out for Edmonton, which means McLeod Bethel-Thompson gets the start. Bethel-Thompson lost his starting quarterback job and has 8 interceptions this season to go with 10 touchdowns. While he led Edmonton to a win last week after Ford got hurt, he lost the starting job for a reason. I’m leaning toward the Tiger-Cats and the free points.

I just don’t see a scenario where Edmonton’s Tre Ford fails in this game. For that specific reason, I am backing Tre Ford as a flex play for this one game CFL DFS slate.

Tevin Jones, Wide Receiver, Edmonton Elks $5,600

In last week’s Edmonton Elks 42-31 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, wide receiver Tevin Jones had a breakout performance. Let me be more specific. In the Elks victory over the Roughriders just mentioned, Saskatchewan wide receiver Tevin Jones tallied three receptions and 123 receiving yards.

In my opinion, Edmonton wide receiver Tevin Jones presents the best fantasy value of any player on this one game CFL DFS slate at the low affordable Draftkings price of only $5,600.

Edmonton Elks, Defense, $4,400

For those readers that are not aware, talented BC Lions signal caller Vernon Adams Jr. has been ruled out for this this Sunday’s matchup with the Elks. In my opinion, the loss of quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. will bring instability to the BC Lions offense. That instability should provide an opportunistic environment for turnovers to the Edmonton Elks defense. I think this Edmonton Elks defense has a real opportunity to break this one game slate.

The Edmonton Elks are 0-6 SU on the year and haven’t won a game overall since September 15 of last year. And we’re supposed to lay 3.5 points with them? Why? Because they’re at home? I’m not buying it. The Elks have done nothing well this season and are dreadful defensively. The Tiger-Cats have their issues as well, but they are second in total offense and passing offense. The two worst teams in the CFL, but I’ll gladly grab the 3.5 points with the Tiger-Cats, even if it’s a fade of the Elks more than anything in this weird favorite role.

With all that said, the Elks have had all 3 of their games this season decided by single digits, and their last two games were decided by a combined 6 points. A bounce here or a bounce there, and we’re looking at the Elks in a difference light. The Elks are also first in pass defense, which is a nice counter toward the Lions, who have the best passing offense and total offense. The hook could be key here. I’ll take a stab with the Elks and the 7.5 free points.
