I like Cody Fajardo’s chances of continuing to play quality football versus the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday night. For that specific reason, I am backing Montreal Alouettes quarterback at the flex position for this one game Draftkings CFL DFS contest.

Looking closer at the data just presented, in the ten games that Walter Fletcher has played for the Montreal Alouettes this season, Fletcher has averaged a respectable 15.4 Draftkings points a contest.

Charleston Rambo, Wide Receiver, Montreal Alouettes, $5,800

How important has wide receiver Charleston Rambo been to the Montreal Alouettes offense this season? In the 14 games that Charleston Rambo has played for the Alouettes in the 2024 CFL regular season, Montreal quarterbacks have targeted Rambo a robust 76 times. In those 76 targets just mentioned, Rambo compiled 51 receptions, 758 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns.

It is noteworthy that these two teams have met twice previously earlier in the season. How did Rambo perform in those two games? Let’s look at the relevant game data to answer that question. How important has Calgary wide receiver Reggie Begelton been to the Calgary Stampeders offense this season? In the seven games that Calgary wide receiver Reggie Begelton has played for the Stampeders in the 2024 CFL regular season, Calgary quarterback Jake Maier has targeted Begelton a whopping 54 times. In those 54 targets just mentioned, Begelton has accumulated 38 receptions, 373 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns. It has to be said, those are the type of DFS numbers I need to see from players that I select for my CFL Draftkings lineups.

More recently, in the Stampeders victory over the Argonauts last week, Calgary wide receiver Reggie Begelton played exceptionally well. More specifically, Begelton tallied eight receptions and 97 receiving yards in the Stampeders win over Toronto. I fully expect Reggie Begelton to continue playing quality football in this week’s matchup with the Argonauts.

Marken Michel, Wide Receiver, Calgary Stampeders $8,500

In addition to Reggie Begelton, Marken Michel has been an essential part of the Calgary Stampeders offense in the 2024 CFL regular season. Let’s review Michel’s recent game data to better shed light on my previous statement.

Defensively, Calgary is allowing 28.1 points and 392.4 yards per game. Micah Awe leads the Calgary Stampeders with 33 tackles, James Vaughters has 2 sacks and Tre Roberson has 3 interceptions.

Calgary Stampeders vs Toronto Argonauts Prediction

The Calgary Stampeders have been at their best at home this season, where all 3 of their wins have come. I can understand why the Stamps are favored. However, are we sure the Toronto Argonauts aren’t the better team? The Stampeders are a below average side on both ends of the field. The Stampeders don’t finish drives offensively, and the defense gets gashed left and right. The Argonauts are first in rushing offense and rushing defense, and that’s how you win games on the road, especially. I’ll gladly grab the points with the Argonauts, and I wouldn’t be shocked if they win outright.

Last week, the Toronto Argonauts defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 16-14. In that contest, talented Toronto wide receiver Makai Polk. accumulated three receptions and 49 receiving yards.

In my opinion, Toronto Argonauts wide receiver Makai Polk. has outstanding fantasy value at the low Draftkings price of only $2,500.

The Argonauts will also play their first home game since June 28, so the crowd should be out in full force. The Argos can score points and the Blue Bombers can’t. This line is more than reasonable. You can make a case for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats because they’re at home and have had an extra week to prepare for this game. The Tiger-Cats have also moved the ball offensively, but have had issues finishing drives. With that said, the Toronto Argonauts have been the complete opposite as they’re the best scoring offense in the league, and they’ve been competitive even in losses. The Argos have won and covered each of the last 6 games against the Tiger-Cats. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats aren’t good defensively, so the Argonauts should have a field day offensively. I’ll lay the 2.5 points with Toronto.

The Roughriders have the best rush defense through four weeks and the best scoring offense. This line is disrespectful toward the rested Roughriders. Give me the home dog.

It also doesn’t hurt that the Argos have won 7 of the last 10 games against the Alouettes. The Argonauts have the best rushing offense and scoring offense in the CFL, and we know they’ll be up for this game at home. The Argonauts could easily win this game, but at the very least, the hook could be key. I’ll take my chances with the Argonauts at home and the 3.5 points.

Having stated that, how did Cody Fajardo perform from a statistical perspective? Let’s review Fajardo’s relevant key player game data from the 2023 CFL regular season to answer that question.

In the 18 games that quarterback Cody Fajardo played for the Montreal Alouettes in the 2023 CFL regular season, Fajardo accumulated an impressive 3,847 passing yards, 14 passing touchdowns, and 341 rushing yards.

How is Fajardo playing this season? In three games played for the Montreal Alouettes in the 2024 CFL regular season, Fajardo is averaging 325.1 passing yards a game.

More recently, in the Montreal Alouettes dominating 47-21 win over the Ottawa Redblacks last week, Fajardo played rather well. More specifically, Fajardo accumulated a whopping 393 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in the Alouettes defeat of the Ottawa Redblacks.

I also like Cody Fajardo’s matchup in this game. Why? Montreal Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo draws a Toronto Argonauts defense that has had issues defending the quarterback position this season. Upon the completion of three games in the 2024 CFL regular season, the Toronto Argonauts are ranked an abysmal seventh in total passing yards allowed (323.5) a game to the quarterback position. Let us not forget that the CFL has nine teams in the entire league. Clearly, being ranked seventh in any defensive category is not good.

As I noted in the rules section above, selecting the correct players for your flex positions for a DFS showdown lineup is absolutely vital if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) Draftkings contest. Keep that in mind as you determine which players to select as your flex plays for this one game Draftkings contest. For me, the obvious first choice at the flex position for this CFL Draftkings contest is Montreal Aouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo.

It’s fair to say that Montreal Alouettes receiver Tyson Philpot has been targeted by Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo early and often in the 2024 CFL campaign. In three games played for the Alouettes this season, Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo has targeted Tyson Philpot 27 times. In those 27 targets, Philpot accumulated 23 receptions, 340 receiving yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns.

I noted earlier in this article that the Toronto Argonauts have been less than stellar defending the pass in 2024. Having stated that, I think locking up Montreal Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo and wide receiver Tyson Philpot as flex plays is the smart way to attack this one game CFL slate.

The Toronto Argonauts look for another win after beating the BC Lions in their season opener. The Argonauts look for back to back 2-0 starts. The Elks aren’t finishing drives offensively, the defense has issues stopping the run, and those struggles came at home. The Elks now take the road for the first time. Meanwhile, the Toronto Argonauts have had an extra week to prepare for this game and with just one contest under their belt they looked fantastic in the trenches on both sides of the ball. The Argos have won 3 straight games against the Elks, and those wins came by an average of 13.3 points. I’ll take the Argonauts by a touchdown.
