Aston Villa comes into this game sitting in 11th place in the standings having picked up 22 points. Last Sunday against Stevenage in the FA Cup, Aston Villa were defeated 2-1. Morgan Sanson scored in the 33rd minute, and it seemed Aston Villa were in good shape to secure the victory. The defense broke down late, though, and they gave up two goals after the 88th minute. The hope is that John McGinn will be back soon from a hamstring injury, but he is going to miss this game. Diego Carlos is still dealing with an Achilles injury, and will be out for a while. Matty Cash picked up an injury in the last game, and it’s going to be hard for him to be back in this game. 

On the other side of this matchup is Leeds United, who sits in 14th place in the standings having picked up 17 points. Leeds United faced off against Cardiff City in the FA Cup and the game ended 2-2. Sonny Perkins scored in the 93rd minute to tie the game. Their last Premier game came against West Ham, and that game ended in a 2-2 draw. Illan Meslier, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Robin Koch, Marc Roca, Tyler Adams, and Rodrigo are all going to be moved back into the starting lineup in this game. There is a chance Patrick Bamford will be healthy enough to move back to the starting lineup in this game. 

Leeds United has really struggled away from home this season, and it’s not going to be any different in this game. This Leeds team is going to really struggle to get quality scoring chances and that is going to be the difference here as Aston Villa are going to get the job done. Aston Villa comes into this game sitting in 12th place in the standings having picked up 21 points. On Sunday, Aston Villa faced off against Tottenham Hotspur, and they were able to secure a 2-0 victory. Emi Buendia and Douglas Luiz both scored in the second half to help secure the victory for Aston Villa. They had only 40 percent of the possession but out shot Tottenham 4-2. McGinn and Luiz both had to be removed from the last game because of injury, and it’s hard to imagine that either player is going to go here. If either player has to miss the game, it looks like it could be Morgan Sanson that will move into the starting lineup. 

On the other side of this matchup is the Wolves, who sits in 19th place in the standings having picked up 13 points. On Saturday, against Manchester United, the Wolves couldn’t get any offense going, and they ended up losing 1-0. The Wolves had 45 percent of the possession and three shots on target. Sasa Kalajdzic, Pedro Neto, and Chiquinho are all still injured, and they won’t be able to play in this game. This is still not an elite offensive team, but the defense hasn’t been good enough with how few goals they scored. They sit in 19th place, and they need to start winning games soon, or they could be relegated after this season. 

This Wolves team is awful, and even though Aston Villa isn’t at full strength, the Wolves are still going to struggle. The Wolves defense might be decent in this game, but Aston Villa will score at least a goal, and that is going to be the difference here. Back Aston Villa on the money line. Tottenham currently sits in 5th place, having picked up 30 points so far this season. Tottenham faced off against Brentford on Monday and that game ended in a 2-2 draw. Harry Kane scored in the 65th minute and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored in the 71st minute to help secure a point. They had 61 percent of the possession and eight shots on target. Richarlison is still dealing with a hamstring injury, and he’s going to be out at least a couple more weeks. Djed Spence is dealing with an illness, but he could be back for this game. 

On the other side of this matchup is Aston Villa, who currently sits in 12th place in the standings having picked up 18 points. On Monday they faced off against Liverpool and they were defeated 3-1. Ollie Watkins did score in the 59th minute, but it wasn’t enough as they were defeated by two goals. Aston Villa did have 48 percent of the possession and six shots on target. Emiliano Martínez is expected to be back after the World Cup, and that should be a big boost for this team. Ashley Young could move back to the bench in this game, with Matty Cash moving into the starting lineup. 

Tottenham’s defense has shown some holes as of late, and that is going to continue here. Look for Aston Villa to score a goal or two, but their defense is going to be leaky too. This is going to be a 2-1 or 2-2 type of game, and the over is going to cash.

Liverpool comes into this game sitting 6th place in the standings having picked up 22 points. Liverpool faced off against Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Thursday, and they were defeated 3-2. Fabio Carvalho scored in the 20th minute and Mohamed Salah scored another goal in the 48th minute. Ibrahima Konate played for France in the World Cup, and he won’t be available to play here. Liverpool has dealt with key injuries all season, and it doesn’t seem to be changing in this game. James Milner and Roberto Firmino are both dealing with injuries and will be out the next couple of games. In this game, Liverpool needs to be the team that controls the pressure and pace of the game. 

On the other side of this matchup is Aston Villa, who sits in 12th place in the standings having picked up 18 points. On December 15th against Villareal, Aston Villa failed to score and that led to the 1-0 defeat. On December 11th they faced off against Chelsea, and they were able to win that game 1-0. Aston Villa will be without Emiliano Martínez, who is still working his way back to the team after winning the World Cup with Argentina. Diego Carlos and Jacob Ramsey are both still hurt heading into this game and won’t be available to play here. 

Not having their starting goalie is a big issue against an offense with as much talent as Liverpool. If Martinez was in goal it might be a different story, but without him, I think they really struggled here. Look for Liverpool to find the back of the net at least twice and get the job done.
