New Mexico Lobos Betting Preview

Record-wise the Lobos have done a great job this year, with only a few scattered losses in the books. New Mexico went 7-3 over their first 10 outings with losses to St. John’s, Arizona State, and New Mexico State among wins over Nicholls, UCLA, Texas A&M-CC, Grambling, Texas Southern, USC, and San Jose State. After a win streak over Western New Mexico, VCU, Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada, Wyoming, and San Diego State, the Lobos fell versus San Jose State. Since then it’s been another win streak as New Mexico has dispatched Boise State, Fresno State, UNLV, Utah State, Colorado State, Air Force, Wyoming, and Utah State. That gives the Lobos a 22-4 overall record through their first 26 outings of the season.

In the Utah State matchup on Sunday, the Lobos came out of the locker room with a 42-36 deficit. New Mexico came alive in the second half on a 46-37 run though, eventually taking the win 82-79. Leading the team in scoring along the way was Tru Washington with 25 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Donovan Dent added 23 points with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Nelly Junior Joseph had 15 points with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while Filip Borovicanin added 11 points with five boards and two assists.

Boise State Broncos Betting Preview

Over on the Boise State side, they had a choppy run going last month but otherwise, they’ve done quite well themselves. The Broncos went 6-3 in their first nine with losses to San Francisco, Boston College, and Washington State among wins over Oakland, Corban College, Clemson, Hampton, South Dakota State, and Utah Tech. Boise State beat Saint Mary’s, Texas Southern, Air Force, San Jose State, and Wyoming in the next five, then hit a 2-4 run with wins over only UNLV and Wyoming. The losses otherwise in that time came versus San Diego State, Utah State, New Mexico, and Colorado State. After wins versus Nevada, Fresno State, UNLV, and San Jose State, the Broncos took another loss to San Diego State. In total that gives Boise State a 17-8 overall record so far through 25 games this year.

Matched up against San Diego State in their Saturday outing, the Broncos were in trouble at the break on a 28-18 deficit. Boise State didn’t get any closer after a 36-29 second half and took the loss at the end 64-47. Tyson Degenhart was the team’s only double-digit scorer, notching 17 points with 12 boards and one assist. Alvaro Cardenas added eight points and three assists in 39 minutes, while Pearson Carmichael put up seven points off the bench.

Boise State vs New Mexico Prediction

I’m going to lean toward the Lobos. New Mexico got off to something of a slow start in their latest win over Utah State, but everything worked out in the end. The Lobos shot 46.2 percent from the field with a 35-27 rebounding advantage, but it was a sloppy game overall. New Mexico committed 14 of the 28 total turnovers, which turned into 19 Utah State points. That makes eight straight wins for the Lobos now, with 71 or more points scored in each game.

New Mexico kicked off this current win streak with an 84-65 victory over Boise State in a home matchup back on January 17. The Lobos shot a nice 54.4 percent from the field in that one with 20 points off 17 Broncos turnovers. Boise State should play better in the home rematch (with fewer mistakes), but I still like New Mexico to keep their current run going.

San Diego State Pulled it Out Late

San Diego State faced off against San Jose State in the last game and they were able to pull it out late. San Diego State was down 37-20 at halftime, but in the second half they really fought back, and were able to pick up the 69-66 win. Nicolas Boyd had a strong game putting up 17 points, four assists, and one rebound. Guard BJ Davis also put up 13 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Two games ago against Colorado State on the road, it wasn’t as good, they ended up losing 68-63. 

San Diego State currently sits with a 16-6 record overall and they have gone 8-13 against the spread. At home straight up they have gone 7-3. San Diego State is averaging 71.1 points while their defense is giving up 63.3 points per game. The offense is ranked 267th in the league while the defense is ranked 12th. Miles Byrd has been the top player putting up 13.3 points while shooting 38.9 percent from the field. 

San Diego State vs Boise State Prediction 

Away from home this season has been a different story for Boise State this season, but that trend is going to change here. Boise State is still an elite offensive team averaging 77.2 points per game and they are going to have no issue getting out to a fast start here. The first time they faced off this year Boise State’s offense wasn’t good enough, but this will be different. San Diego State’s defense will have no answer and Boise State will get the job done. San Diego State doesn’t get blown out often, and points are valuable due to its ability to hang in games and defend. This should be a close one like many have been in the past.

Boise State is top-10 in total offense and third in scoring offense. Ashton Jeanty is somebody who can take over a game by himself, and the Broncos are top-40 in scoring defense. It also should be mentioned that going back to 1999, Boise State is 6-1 ATS as a double-digit underdog and 3 of those covers were outright wins. Give me the points in a game, I kind of feellike Boise State could steal outright.

I’m with Wyoming here. I know it’s tough to turn down Boise State as the Broncos are an experienced team that’s been there and done that and made the trip to Wyoming many times before. However, strange things have and will continue to happen in Laramie, as the altitude plays a big role and the Cowboys always seem to step up their play when teams come into their building. The Cowboys just stifled a really solid Nevada team that just came into their building and held them to 63 points and I think Wyoming could do the same here. I’m not sure that Wyoming pulls off the outright upset here, but I do think the Cowboys make this one competitive and that it could come down to who takes the final shot. Give me Wyoming and the points in this one.

St. Mary’s Gaels Betting Preview

The Gaels rattled off wins over Towson, Chattanooga, Akron, Nebraska, Stanislaus State, Cal Poly and USC before their first loss to Arizona State. St. Mary’s came back from that defeat for wins over UTSA and Utah in the next pair.

Last Saturday versus Utah, the Gaels were up 39-22 going into the second half. St. Mary’s was outscored 41-33 from there but held on for the win 72-63. Paulius Murauskas was the top team scorer on 29 points and seven rebounds.

Boise State Broncos Betting Preview

Over on the Boise State side, they beat Oakland, Corban College, Clemson, Hampton and South Dakota State in their opening 5-1 run. It’s been a 1-2 stretch since then however, featuring losses to Boston College and Washington State.

In the Cougars game last weekend, the Broncos were drilled 44-24 in the first half. Boise State got better from there with 45 more points but still lost 74-69. Andrew Meadow came off the bench to lead the team on 21 points and seven boards.

Why the Boise State Broncos will win

• Boise State has won 16 of its last 20 games against the West Coast Conference.
• Boise State has won the first half in 14 of its last 18 games against the West Coast Conference.

Why the Saint Mary’s Gaels will win

• Saint Mary’s has won 26 of its last 28 games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
• Boise State has lost each of its last four night games played at neutral venues.
• Saint Mary’s has won the first half in each of its last 10 games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Boise State vs St. Mary’s Prediction

I’ll try St. Mary’s in this one. The Gaels did pretty well in their latest win over Utah (minus the 14 turnovers and 60.9 percent from the line), shooting 43.9 percent from the field with 40 rebounds. This year St. Mary’s has a few close finishes but overall they’ve been competitive and are scoring well. The Gaels have hit 71 or more points in all nine wins so far.

As for Boise State, they couldn’t overcome a rough first half in their loss to Washington State, eventually shooting a tepid 37.9 percent from the field. The Broncos have failed to hit 70 points in two of the last three games, so high-percentage shots should be a priority here. All things considered however, I like St. Mary’s to cover if the Gaels can keep the pace brisk.

Washington State Cougars Betting Preview

The Washington State Cougars are 7-2 this season after they defeated Nevada by a score of 68-57 in their last game. Washington State led 31-21 at halftime and was able to maintain that lead in the second half for a nice win. The first matchup was pretty even and ended with Boise State taking up the last eight minutes of the game. Boise State’s only loss this season came against Oregon in a very close game, but they haven’t played their best in their last four games. UNLV has won three games in a row by double digits, but they need to find a way to slow down Jeanty. I think UNLV has the better quarterback and I do think the Rebels could get the win, so I will take the free field goal here. Take UNLV.

Boise State Pulled it Out

It wasn’t the prettiest game on Monday against South Dakota State, but Boise State was able to pull it out late, and they ended up winning 83-82. At halftime, they were up 44-42 and they ended up holding onto the victory. Javan Buchanan was the star of the show for Boise State putting up 28 points, three rebounds, and one assist. On Sunday, Boise State was able to beat Hampton 83-69. Boise State is averaging 85 points while their defense is giving up 69 points per game. The offense is ranked 41st in the league while the defense is ranked 139th. In this game, Boise State is going to need to get out to a fast start. 

Tired Legs for Boston College?

It could be extra tired legs for Boston College in this game after it took overtime to beat Missouri State on Monday. Boston College shot 50 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from behind the three-point line, and that was enough for them to secure the 76-74 victory. Donald Hand Jr had a strong game putting up 18 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. Fred Payne also had quite the game putting up 18 points, three rebounds, and one assist. Boston College is averaging 72.7 points while their defense is giving up 66 points per game. The offense is ranked 257th in the league, while the defense is ranked 86th. 

Boston College vs Boise State Prediction 

Give me the under here. Boston College’s game on Monday was low-scoring and it went to overtime, and this game isn’t going to overtime. Boston College’s defense is going to step up in a big way here and that is going to be a key. Boise State’s defense is also going to step up and Boston College is going to really struggle to get the offense going here. Neither team has reached 65 points here. Back the under to cash here. What a Win for Oregon State

Oregon State faced off against Washington State in the last game and they put up 41 points and ended up winning three points. It was a close game all afternoon, but they were able to hold on for the easy victory. Ben Gulbranson completed 22 of his 34 passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions. Anthony Hankerson finished with 23 carries for 83 yards. Trent Walker finished with 12 catches for 136 yards. Oregon State is averaging 24.8 points while their defense is giving up 29.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 93rd in the league while the defense is ranked 100th. The defense for this team has been a problem at times and they are going to need the defense to be better here. Oregon State knows if they win this game, they make a bowl game, but if they lose, the season is over. 

Boise State Squeaked It Out

Boise State didn’t look good in the last game against Wyoming, but at this point of the season the most important thing is a win, and that’s what the Broncos were able to secure. Boise State scored 17 points and they ended up securing the four-point victory. Maddux Madsen completed 14 of his 26 passes for 167 yards. Ashton Jeanty finished with 19 carries for 169 yards and a touchdown. Boise State is averaging 41.2 points while their defense is giving up 23.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 3rd in the league while the defense is ranked 60th in the league. Ashton Jeanty is having a historic season and he has rushed for 2,062 yards and 27 touchdowns. 

Why Boise State Will Beat Oregon State
