The Houston Cougars are one of the more balanced teams in the country, and this will be a beatdown if ASU doesn’t get its act together. Houston is also undefeated on the road through seven games. Give me Houston in a double-digit road victory.

TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview

TCU has been quite the choppy team in the record column so far this year. The team can’t quite seem to string together any significant win streaks amid a tough schedule. The Frogs opened things up with a 9-6 overall run, taking losses to Michigan, Santa Clara, Colorado State, Vanderbilt, Arizona and Houston in that time. The wins otherwise were versus Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, Texas State, Alcorn State, Xavier, South Alabama, Montana State, Kansas State and BYU. A 1-4 run came next with a lone win over Baylor among losses to Utah, Kansas, UCF and Texas Tech. Since then the Horned Frogs are 3-1 in their last four with a lone loss to Iowa State. The wins in that quartet came courtesy of Colorado, West Virginia and Oklahoma State. That gives TCU a 13-11 overall run through their first 24 games this year.

In the Oklahoma State matchup on Wednesday, the Frogs went into the second half sporting a 38-31 advantage. TCU was outscored 41-35 the rest of the way but held on for the tight win 73-72. Vasean Allette led the team with 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists alongside one steal. Noah Reynolds added 13 points with eight assists and five rebounds. Micah Robinson also tallied 13 points off the bench along with his four rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes of work. Malick Diallo had 10 points with four rebounds off the bench as well.

Arizona State Sun Devils Betting Preview

Over on the Arizona State side, they were looking quite good as the calendar year flipped over to 2025. Since then however, the Sun Devils have struggled amid some difficult matchups. Arizona State hit a 10-3 opening run in their first 13 outings with losses to only Gonzaga, Florida and BYU in that time. Arizona State otherwise beat Idaho State, Santa Clara, Grand Canyon, St. Thomas MN, Cal Poly, New Mexico, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, UMass and Colorado in that time. Since then the Sun Devils have won just two games over West Virginia and Colorado. That gives Arizona State an even .500 record through their first 24 games of the year at 12-12 overall so far.

Matched up against Texas Tech on Wednesday, the Sun Devils hit a one-point edge in the first half. Arizona State fought through two overtime periods but ultimately fell just short 111-106 in a tough road defeat. Leading the team in the loss was Adam Miller with 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal. BJ Freeman added 21 points with three assists and three steals. Alston Mason added 16 points with six assists and two steals. Tops in bench scoring was Amier Ali with his 18 points, seven rebounds and two steals in 34 minutes.

I’m going to stick with Arizona State. All things considered we should have a pretty good matchup here, though. The Sun Devils pushed a good Texas Tech team to the limit in a tricky road matchup during their last outing, eventually shooting a nice 55.6 percent from the floor. Arizona State gave up 57.4 percent shooting on the other side though, along with a 38-27 rebounding deficit and 12 turnovers for 17 Red Raiders points. It was a valiant effort, but ultimately expanded the Sun Devils’ losing streak to four. They’ve posted 70 or more points in each of those games though, so I think Arizona State will notch a solid total here.

Arizona State opened up on a great run heading into December. It’s been a pretty messy run in the record column since then, however. The Sun Devils won eight of their first nine games, falling to only Gonzaga among wins over Idaho State, Santa Clara, Grand Canyon, St. Thomas MN, Cal Poly, New Mexico, Saint Mary’s, and San Diego in that time. Arizona State would go just 2-6 over the next eight, beating UMass and Colorado among losses to Florida, BYU, Kansas, Baylor, UCF, and Cincinnati in that time. it’s been a 2-4 stretch over the last six with wins versus West Virginia and Colorado. Otherwise, the Sun Devils have fallen to Iowa State, Arizona, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. That gives Arizona State a 12-11 overall record through their first 23 games of the season so far.

In the Oklahoma State matchup back on Sunday, the Sun Devils came out of the locker room with a 43-33 deficit. Arizona State didn’t end up getting any closer than that on a 43-40 run and took the loss 86-73 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Alston Mason with 25 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Joson Sanon added 17 points with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Amier Ali chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for a double-double, while Basheer Jihad had 10 points with three assists and three steals.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Preview

Over on the Red Raiders’ side, they’ve been quite the steady team so far this year with no instances of consecutive losses yet. Texas Tech went 9-3 in their first dozen games with losses to Saint Joseph’s, Texas A&M, and UCF. The wins otherwise were over Bethune-Cookman, Northwestern State, Wyoming, AR-Pine Bluff, Syracuse, Northern Colorado, DePaul, Oral Roberts, and Lamar. After wins over Utah and BYU, the Raiders fell again to Iowa State in overtime. Texas Tech would take out Kansas State, Arizona, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, TCU, Houston, and Baylor from there before falling versus Arizona over the weekend. That gives Texas Tech an 18-5 overall record this year through their first 23 outings.

Matched up versus Arizona on Saturday, the Raiders kicked off the game with a 39-37 deficit. Texas Tech didn’t end up getting closer on a 43-36 run from there and took the loss 82-73 by the end of the game. Leading the way with 21 points, 13 rebounds and two steals for a double-double was JT Toppin. Elijah Hawkins doubled up as well with 10 points and 12 assists, while Darrion Williams had 17 points with three steals and three rebounds. Leading bench scorer Christian Anderson had 17 points with three rebounds and a pair of assists.

Texas Tech vs Arizona State Prediction

I’ll stay with Texas Tech, but the line’s probably too thick to mess with. The Raiders didn’t play all that well in their latest loss to a good Arizona team, though. In that one, Texas Tech shot only 37.1 percent from the field and got outmuscled on the boards 42-29. The Red Raiders gave up 51.7 percent shooting on the other side but did keep the mistakes pretty minimal with just nine turnovers. That said, Texas Tech is still scoring well. They’ve hit 71 or more points in four straight games now.

As for Arizona State, they’ve scored 70 or more points in four straight games themselves. The thing is, the last three of those have been losses with 71 or more points surrendered in each. Texas Tech needs a good bounce-back effort here in order to power out a cover, but I think they’ll get it.

I’m on the Arizona Wildcats here. I get the reasoning for taking a look at the Sun Devils with a potential letdown spot for Arizona after the big win over Iowa State, but the concern for ASU is BJ Freeman leaving the Colorado game after four minutes with an injury and Jayden Quaintance missed the last game as well with an injury. Those are two big pieces to be down against an Arizona team that’s started to turn it on in conference play after a mediocre start to the year. I think Arizona continues their dominance over their in-state rival with a win and cover here.

In the last game against UCF, it was a whole lot different though and it was a blowout win. The offense put up 99 points while the defense gave up only 48 points and that led to the victory. Hunter Dickinson put up 27 points, nine rebounds, and one assist. There were four different players that put up at least 11 points. Kansas shot 50.6 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from behind the three-point line. 

Kansas on the season is averaging 79.3 points while their defense is giving up 64.3 points per game. The offense is ranked 91st in the league while the defense is ranked 30th. They are averaging 19 assists per game which is 8th in the league. Hunter Dickinson has been the top player averaging 16 points while shooting 55.4 percent from the field. He still is a liability on the defensive end, but he’s a good offensive player, there is no doubt about that. Zeke Mayo, the transfer from South Dakota State has been good and is the second-leading scorer averaging 14 points per game. 

Arizona State Looks for Second Straight Win

Arizona State has played pretty well heading into this game, and they are coming off another victory in the last game. Arizona State scored 81 points against Colorado and that was enough for the 20-point victory. At halftime, they were up 40-27 and in the second half, they pulled away even further. BJ Freeman had a strong game putting up 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Arizona State shot 51.9 percent from the field and 46.4 percent from behind the three-point line.

In this game, the offense is going to need to be good, but the defense is also going to need to step up in a big way. On the road, getting out to a fast start is going to be key. Joson Sanon is dealing with an injury and is questionable for this game.

I’m on BYU here. I get the case to be made for the Sun Devils, as Arizona State is the more battle-tested team here with six games already this season against teams inside the KenPom top-100 and wins over teams like Santa Clara, New Mexico, and Saint Mary’s on a neutral floor. However, this is a tough spot for your first true road game in altitude against a really talented and downright loaded BYU team that may have the 355th-ranked strength of schedule but is getting two of their top talents back for this game in Egor Demin and Richie Saunders who have missed a lot of recent games with injury. I think with those returning pieces and the road environment for Arizona State, I have to lay it and play it with BYU at home here.
