Oregon Finally Back on the Right Track

Oregon had lost five games in a row before winning the last game against the Northwestern Wildcats. Oregon’s offense was sure impressive, scoring 81 points, and that was enough for the six-point victory. At halftime, Oregon was up 39-25, and in the second half, they held on for the win. Jackson Shelsted put up 26 points, four assists, and one rebound. There were three different players that put up at least 14 points. Two games ago against Michigan State, the defense was awful, giving up 86 points and that led to the defeat. 

Oregon overall sits with a 17-8 record overall, and they have gone 10-15 against the spread. The over has hit in 15 of the 25 games so far this season. Oregon is averaging 76.5 points, while their defense is giving up 72.1 points per game. The offense is ranked 114th, while the defense is ranked 196th. Jackson Shelstad has been the top player, averaging 13.4 points while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. 

Rutgers Has Been A Disappointment

Rutgers has been a major disappointment this season and they just keep losing games. Two games ago against Maryland, Rutgers lost 90-81 and in the last game against Iowa, they ended up losing 84-73. In the second half Rutgers was outscored 51-31 and that led to the defeat. Even though Rutgers lost they used a balanced offensive attack to find the offensive success. Ace Bailey had a strong game putting up 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists. 

Rutgers sits with a 12-13 record overall, and they have gone 11-13-1 against the spread. Away from home, they have gone 2-5 straight up. Rutgers is averaging 76.3 points, while their defense is giving up 75.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 122nd in the league, while the defense is ranked 288th. Rutgers does like to get up and down and they are averaging 60.36 field goals attempted per game which is 101st in the league. Guard Ace Bailey is averaging 19.1 points per game. 

Oregon vs Rutgers Prediction

Give me Oregon here. I really don’t trust Oregon, honestly, but I really don’t trust Rutgers more. This Rutgers defense has refused to play a lick of defense the last month, and their lack of any sort of defense is going to be the difference here. Oregon is going to have no issue running up the score, and it’s going to be the Ducks that are going to cruise here. Oregon will win this game by at least 15 points. Back Oregon against the spread.

Northwestern Looks to Bounce Back

In the last game, Northwestern faced off against Washington, and they didn’t play well enough. Northwestern scored 71 points, but the defense gave up 76 points, and that led to the defeat. There were three different players that put up at least 13 points. In this game, the offense needs to get out to a faster start. On Sunday, Northwestern is going to face off against the Oregon Ducks. 

Northwestern currently sits with a 13-11 record overall and they have gone 11-13 against the spread. Northwestern is averaging 73.9 points while their defense is giving up 70.1 points per game. This team isn’t a great rebounding team and they are averaging only 30.79 of them a game. Nick Martinelli has been the top player for this team averaging 19.8 points while shooting 47.5 percent from the field.

It has been quite the fall for Oregon, and coming into this game, they have lost five games in a row. Do you want me to lay this type of number with a team that has lost five games in a row? Yeah, no, thank you. Northwestern hasn’t played as well as of late, but they are still a good offensive team, averaging 73.9 points per game, and they are going to find success again here. Oregon will probably still come away with a win with their offense, but it won’t be more than five points here. Oregon Ducks Betting Preview

The Ducks have been a remarkably consistent team in the win column for most of the season. That said, they’ve had some issues over the last few games. Oregon opened up the 2024-25 season with a nice run, taking out UC Riverside, Montana, Portland, Troy, Oregon State, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Alabama, and USC in succession over the first nine outings. A 3-2 stretch ensued with losses to UCLA and Illinois bookending wins over Stephen F. Austin, Stanford, and Weber State. After beating Maryland, Ohio State, and Penn State in the next trio, the Ducks hit a 1-2 stretch. The lone win in that time was over Washington. Otherwise, it was losses to Purdue and Minnesota which dropped Oregon to 16-4 on the year so far.

In the Minnesota game over the weekend, the Ducks hit a 44-38 deficit in the first half. Oregon didn’t end up getting any closer in the second, riding a 33-31 finish to a 77-69 road loss in the end. Leading the team in scoring during the losing effort was Brandon Angel with 18 points and five rebounds. Both Jackson Shelstad (one assist; one steal) and TJ Bamba (three rebounds; four assists; two steals) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 15 points each.

UCLA Bruins Betting Preview

Over on the UCLA side, they kicked off their season on a great run, then hit some turbulence starting in late December. The Bruins have been able to right the ship over the last four games, though. UCLA won 10 of their first 11 games, falling to only New Mexico with wins otherwise versus Rider, Boston U, Lehigh, Idaho State, Cal State Fullerton, Southern Utah, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, and Prairie View in that time. A rough 1-5 stretch ensued with a lone win over Gonzaga. Otherwise, it was losses to North Carolina, Nebraska, Michigan, Maryland, and Rutgers in that time. Since then, however, UCLA has had four straight wins. Those have come in succession versus Iowa, Wisconsin, Washington, and USC. The result so far has been a 15-6 overall record through the first 21 games of the year for the Bruins.

Matched up against USC on Monday, the Bruins went into the locker room with a 42-37 edge. UCLA kept it up in the second on a 40-39 advantage and eventually powered out the road win 82-76. Tops in scoring was Eric Dailey with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Sebastian Mack added 14 points with three rebounds and one assist, while Aday Mara doubled up on 12 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and two assists in 27 minutes of work on the floor.

UCLA vs Oregon Prediction

I’m staying with UCLA I suppose. This one should be a pretty good matchup overall if both teams play to their capabilities, though. The Bruins took care of a tricky USC team pretty well in their last outing, notching a nice 54.9 percent shooting from the floor with a 29-25 rebounding edge and just nine turnovers. UCLA was also solid from the line with a 20-of-25 (80 percent) result. During this four-game win streak, the Bruins have posted 82 or more points in three outings.

These teams have seen each other before during a 73-71 road win for the Bruins back on December 8. Both teams shot well in that one (over 45 percent) and Oregon held a 33-23 rebounding edge. The difference in the game, however, was the Ducks’ 13 turnovers for 16 Bruins points. UCLA can’t rely on mistakes this time around, but the comfortable home environment should help quite a bit. I like the Bruins to eke one out in a tight matchup.

Oregon can’t overlook this game because if they do, they will have a bad loss here. On Tuesday, Oregon scored 82 points and they ended up winning by 11 points. Forward Brandon Angel had a strong game putting up 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

The offense is ranked 91st in the league while the defense is ranked 130th, They are shooting 75.25 free throw line which is 68th in the league. Overall, this season, Minnesota has been awful, but they seem to be figuring it out, and they have a ton of confidence right now. Two games ago against Michigan they were able to secure the 84-81 victory. In the last game against Iowa they went on the road and they secured the 72-67 victory. At halftime they were up 32-28 and in the  second half they continued the success on the way to the victory. 

Minnesota comes into this game with a 10-9 record overall and they have gone 5-12-2 against the spread. The Gophers are averaging 69.4 points while their defense is giving up 68.7 points per game. The offense is ranked 303rd in the league while the defense is ranked 100th. They are averaging 15.63 assists per game which is 81st in the league. Dawson Garcia is having a strong season averaging 19.1 points while shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from behind the three point line.

Washington Huskies Betting Preview

The Huskies opened up the season on a pretty good overall run, losing consecutive outings just once during their first 14 games. Washington has been struggling against some tough competition lately though, and it’s taken a toll on the win columns. The Huskies opened with a lone loss to Nevada among wins over UC Davis, Seattle Pacific, UMass Lowell, Alcorn State, Colorado State, and Santa Clara. A 4-3 stretch came after that, featuring losses to Seattle U, UCLA and USC. The wins otherwise were versus Eastern Washington, Washington State, NJIT, and Maryland at that time. Since then the Huskies have lost four straight, falling to Illinois, Michigan State, Michigan, and Purdue in succession for a 10-8 overall record thus far.

In the Purdue game last Wednesday, the Huskies came out of halftime sporting a 30-22 edge. Washington was blitzed in the second half 47-28 however, and ended up falling 69-58 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Great Osobor with 28 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Mekhi Mason added 12 points with five rebounds, three steals and two assists off the bench. Zoom Diallo chipped in six points with four rebounds and three assists.

Oregon Ducks Betting Preview

Over on the Oregon side, they came out of the gate this year with a nine-game win streak and they’ve stayed consistent since then. The Ducks took out UC Riverside, Montana, Portland, Troy, Oregon State, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Alabama, and USC during that opening stretch before taking their first loss to UCLA on December 8. A 6-1 stretch commenced afterward with a lone loss to Illinois in the middle of wins versus Stephen F. Austin, Stanford, Weber State, Maryland, Ohio State, and Penn State. Over the weekend the Ducks took another loss to Purdue, giving them a 15-3 overall record so far this season.

Matched up against Purdue in their Saturday outing, the Ducks held a slim 31-30 edge going into the locker room. Oregon ended up getting outscored 35-27 the rest of the way however and fell 65-58 by the final horn. Nate Bittle led the team with 18 points, six blocks, and two rebounds. Jackson Shelstad added 15 points with five rebounds, two steals and two assists. Also in double-figures was Brandon Angel, who contributed 10 points, five boards, and one assist in 24 minutes of work on the court during the defeat.

Oregon vs Washington Prediction

I’m probably just going to stay with the Ducks. Oregon is coming off a rough loss versus a tricky Purdue team, and they’ll need to gather themselves for a bounce-back performance. The Ducks ended up with just 36 percent shooting with a 37-32 rebounding deficit (12-5 offensive) in that defeat, coughing up 16 turnovers for 15 Boilermakers points along the way. The good news is that Oregon held Purdue to just 33.9 percent shooting on the other side and scored 18 points off 12 turnovers. Still, the 58-point total was the Ducks’ lowest of the season and comes on the heels of 73 or more in seven straight (a 6-1 run).

As for Washington, they shot better versus Purdue in their latest loss (42.6 percent) but also allowed 50 percent shooting on defense. The 17 turnovers for 18 Boilermakers points didn’t help matters either. The Huskies have been below 59 points in two of their last three games (an 0-3 run) but to be fair they’ve taken on some tough teams in that time. This matchup will be another difficult one, and I don’t think Washington will end up keeping the pace.

The Purdue Boilermakers beat Washington and Nebraska, and they play Ohio State, Michigan, and Indiana next. The Purdue Boilermakers are averaging 77.9 points on 49.8 percent shooting and allowing 67.9 points on 43.2 percent shooting. Trey Kaufman-Renn is averaging 17.6 points and 6.2 rebounds, while Braden Smith is averaging 15.1 points and 4.7 rebounds. Fletcher Loyer is the third double-digit scorer and Daniel Jacobson is grabbing 3.5 rebounds. The Purdue Boilermakers are shooting 39.2 percent from beyond the arc and 71.3 percent from the free throw line. The Oregon Ducks are getting the benefit of the doubt because they’re at home, where they can be a nightmare when those shots are falling. Oregon is 7-2 SU at home this season. However, are we sure Purdue isn’t the better team? You can argue Purdue will have the best player on the floor, and the Boilermakers have allowed less than 70 points in every contest of their six-game winning streak. In a neutral site, I’m sure Purdue would be favored, so I’m not going to let the venue scare me away. Give me the bucket with Purdue in a game it could win outright.

The Terps took one on the chin in their own right but I expect some positive regression for them going forward in a bounce-back effort here. After Ohio State’s loss against Michigan there were was a lot of concern about the confidence of this team, but after the last win this team has all kinds of confidence. Ohio State scored 42 points against Tennessee and that was enough for the blowout victory. Will Howard completed 24 of his 29 passes for 311 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. TreVeyon Henderson finished with 10 carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Jeremiah Smith is having a huge game and he finished with six carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Ohio State on the season is averaging 36 points while their defense is giving up 11.4 points per game. The offense is ranked 12th in college football while the defense is ranked 1st.

Is Oregon Really Number One?

Oregon is the number one team in the country and what do they get reward with? A date with the team many believe could end the season as the number one team. In the last game, Oregon faced off against Penn State and they scored 45 points on the way to the victory. Dillon Gabriel completed 22 of his 32 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Jordan James finished with 20 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Oregon still hasn’t lost a game, and this game will probably come down to the defense making the stops. Oregon on the season is averaging 35.9 points while their defense is giving up 17.8 points per game. The offense is ranked 13th in the league while the defense is ranked 12th.

Give me Oregon getting the points here. Oregon already knows what it’s like to beat Ohio State, after all they already have knocked them off once this season. This Oregon offense is good and they are averaging 35.9 points per game. WIll Howard at times has been inconsistent and I don’t trust them to find success here. Dillon Gabriel threw four touchdowns in the last game and he is going to lead Oregon to plenty of offense here. Having two points in your back pocket is going to be nice in a game that I expect is going to be very close. Back Oregon against the spread.

Weber State Wildcats Betting Preview

Weber State went 1-4 over their first five games, then beat Justice, Bowling Green and Pepperdine. It’s been a 2-3 run since then with losses to North Dakota State, North Dakota and Utah Valley for the Wildcats, though.

In the Utah Valley game, the Wildcats were down by three points at the break and ultimately couldn’t bridge the gap in a 64-62 loss. Nigel Burris led the team on his 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Over on the Ducks’ side, they beat UC Riverside, Montana, Portland, Troy, Oregon State, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Alabama and USC before a loss to UCLA. Oregon came back with wins over Stephen F. Austin and Stanford in the next pair.

In the Stanford game, the Ducks held the Cardinal to just 19 first-half points. Oregon hit 40 more points themselves in the second half for a 76-61 win. Kwame Evans came off the bench for 13 points and three rebounds to lead the way.

I’ll just stay with Oregon here. The Ducks did a good job against a pretty solid Stanford team in their last outing, shooting 43.6 percent from the field with 41 rebounds and just nine turnovers. That makes 71 or more points in all but one game (68 versus USC) for the Ducks this year, and 155 combined points in the last pair.

As for Weber State, they shot pretty well (45.3 percent) in their loss to Utah Valley but did get outmuscled on the boards 35-31 during a pretty tight game. The Wildcats had scored 73 or more points in four straight games (a 2-2 run) prior to that, but I don’t think they’ll find much daylight against Oregon.

Oregon Ducks Betting Preview

This year the Ducks won their first nine over UC Riverside, Montana, Portland, Troy, Oregon State, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Alabama and USC. After a close loss to UCLA, Oregon got back in the win column versus Stephen F. Austin.

Back on Sunday in the matchup with the Lumberjacks, the Ducks were ahead comfortably 37-23 by halftime. Oregon hit a 42-38 run the rest of the way in a 79-61 win. Lead scorer Brandon Angel finished with 15 points and six boards.

Stanford Cardinal Betting Preview

Over on the Stanford side, they beat Denver, CSU Fullerton, Northern Arizona, UC Davis, Norfolk State and Santa Clara before losses to Grand Canyon and Cal Poly. It’s been wins over Utah Valley, California and Merrimack since then.

In the Merrimack game on Tuesday, the Cardinal held a nine-point edge going into the second half. Stanford was outpaced by three from there but still won 74-68. Oziyah Sellers finished with a team-high 19 points and three boards in the victory.

Stanford vs Oregon Prediction

I’ll stay with Oregon. The Ducks shot great (51 percent) from the field in their win over Stephen F. Austin, but also went just 22-of-32 (68.8 percent) from the line. The 19 turnovers and 36-34 rebounding deficit didn’t help either, but much of that can be chalked up to garbage time shenanigans after a large initial lead. The Ducks are scoring great this year, with 71 or more points in 10 of 11 games (68 in the outlier).

As for Stanford, they shot 44.6 percent from the field with a 38-31 rebounding advantage against Merrimack. The Cardinal have looked pretty good during this three-game win streak, and they’ve scored 70 or more points in all 11 games so far. I like Stanford to stay close initially here, with Oregon powering out a late cover.

I’m with Oregon here. I simply think the Ducks are just the better team when it comes down to it, and this isn’t the same Stephen F. Austin team that we’ve seen in years past. The turnovers continue to be an issue, but the Lumberjacks are the worst free throw shooting team in the country, which is problematic when you’re an underdog trying to cover on the road or a team trying to win a basketball game in general. I think that Oregon will pull away and win this one in a rout so give me the Ducks at home.
