]]>The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs come into this game looking to build on a 66-61 win over Sam Houston last time out to improve to 16-6 on the year. After this game, Louisiana Tech will head on the road for a game against FIU.
Daniel Batcho leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 18.8 PPG along with 7.1 RPG while Amaree Abram has 12 PPG with 4.9 RPG, Kaden Cooper has 10.9 PPG with a team-high 7.7 RPG to lead the Bulldogs on the glass and Sean Newman Jr. has added 10.5 PPG with a team-high 9 APG to lead the Bulldogs in assists and to round out the group of double-digit scorers for LA Tech so far this season. Al Green’s also added 8.3 PPG so far this season. As a team, Louisiana Tech is averaging 75.9 PPG on 47.6% shooting from the field, 33.6% from three, and 74.7% from the foul line so far this season.
The Liberty Flames come into this game looking to bounce back after a 72-61 loss at the hands of Jacksonville State last time out to improve to 17-5 on the year. After this game, Liberty will welcome Sam Houston to town for a matchup.
Kaden Metheny leads the Flames in scoring with 13 PPG along with 2.7 RPG and 2 APG while Taelon Peter has 12.5 PPG with 3.6 RPG. Zach Cleveland has 11.5 PPG with a team-high 6.5 RPG and 5.1 APG to lead the Flames in rebounding and assists while Isaiah Ihnen has 10.4 PPG with 4.3 RPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Liberty up to this point in the year. Owen Aquino has 9.5 PPG with 6.2 RPG of his own along with 2.3 APG while Jayvon Maughmer has 8.8 PPG with 4.3 RPG and Colin Porter’s added 8.9 PPG with 2 RPG and 4.3 APG as well on the year. As a team, Liberty is averaging 77.6 PPG on 49.3% shooting from the field, 37.7% from three, and 65.1% from the foul line this season.
I’m on Liberty in this game. I’m just not a fan of backing Louisiana Tech on the road as they’ve gone 0-4 SU/ATS in their conference road games this season and this Liberty team is time and time again a tough out when they’re playing at home. The Flames haven’t been as dominant as I would’ve expected up to this point in the year, but I think they do enough here to take care of business at home and to secure the win and cover in this one so give me Liberty laying the points.

The Liberty Flames are averaging 78.6 points on 49.7 percent shooting and allowing 61.4 points on 39.5 percent shooting. Kaden Metheny is averaging 13.4 points and 2.5 rebounds, while Taelon Peter is averaging 12.3 points and 3.4 rebounds. Zach Cleveland is the third double-digit scorer and Isaiah Ihnen is grabbing 4.3 rebounds. The Liberty Flames are shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc and 65.3 percent from the free throw line. The Liberty Flames are allowing 28.7 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 32 rebounds per game.
The Kennesaw State Owls beat New Mexico State, lost to UTEP, and they play FIU, Western Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee next. The Kennesaw State Owls are averaging 78.9 points on 42.6 percent shooting and allowing 74.4 points on 40.1 percent shooting. Simeon Cottle is averaging 18.4 points and 2.5 rebounds, while Adrian Wooley is averaging 18.1 points and 4.9 rebounds. Braedan Lue is the third double-digit scorer and Jamil Miller is grabbing 5.8 rebounds. The Kennesaw State Owls are shooting 29.8 percent from beyond the arc and 70.5 percent from the free throw line. The Kennesaw State Owls are allowing 31.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 38.8 rebounds per game.
Kennesaw State doesn’t have a player listed on its injury report. Liberty will continue to be without Isaiah Ihnen due to an undisclosed issue.
The Liberty Flames have probably been the more impressive team this season, and they’re comfortably the better offensive team. If Liberty shoots its season averages tonight, it should produce a win. However, Kennesaw State is undefeated at home through nine games and this is the biggest game left on the schedule, so expect a packed KSU Convocation Center. It’s also a rare national TV game for Kennesaw State, so there’s going to be some energy in the building. Kennesaw State is 12-5 ATS on the season and has outright upset Liberty in the last two meetings. Also, the underdog has covered five of the last seven games between Kennesaw State and Liberty. This won’t be a cakewalk for Liberty. I’ll take a shot with Kennesaw State and the free bucket.

The Liberty Flames beat Sam Houston, lost to LA Tech, and they play New Mexico State, FIU, and Kennesaw State next. The Liberty Flames are averaging 79.5 points on 49.5 percent shooting and allowing 61 points on 39.5 percent shooting. Kaden Metheny is averaging 13.6 points and 2.4 rebounds, while Zach Cleveland is averaging 11.4 points and 6.8 rebounds. The Liberty Flames are allowing 29.1 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 32.7 rebounds per game.
The UTEP Miners don’t have a player listed on their injury report. The Liberty Flames will be without Isaiah Ihnen for the rest of the season.
The UTEP Miners don’t have a ton of road experience this season, and we just saw them get destroyed by New Mexico State as a seven-point favorite. The Liberty Flames have the offense to give UTEP trouble, and they’re 7-1 SU at home. UTEP is top-70 in points allowed and three-point percentage defense, but it hasn’t faced an offense this explosive. Liberty is top-20 in offensive field goal percentage and top-30 in offensive three-point percentage. Liberty is also one of the better cover teams in college basketball, with a 10-4 ATS record. The Liberty Flames are the more consistent teams, and it’s hard to get UTEP’s last effort out of your mind. I’ll lay the points with the Flames at home on Thursday night.

The Sam Houston State Bearkats don’t have a player listed on their injury report. The Liberty Flames will be without Isaiah Ihnen due to undisclosed issues.
The Sam Houston State Bearkats will have their chances at home, where they’re undefeated on the season. I still have to lean toward the Liberty Flames. Liberty has been the more consistent team, plays above-average ball at both ends, and has proven it can win on the road. Liberty is also 9-3 ATS on the season. Much more trustworthy than Sam Houston State, who is 3-9 ATS on the season. Sam Houston State is not good defensively and should struggle against a Liberty offense that shoots 50 percent from the field. I’ll lay the points with Liberty.

Neither Liberty nor Western Kentucky has any players on its injury report.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have the offense to give Liberty a scare, but the pace they play at gives above-average teams too many good looks. The Liberty Flames are unbeaten at home and with the way they shoot, they should be drooling about this matchup with WKU. Liberty is also more trustworthy on defense. The Liberty Flames are also 8-2 ATS on the season. Liberty is one of the best cover teams in the country, as only 5 teams have a better cover percentage of 80 percent. I’ll lay the points with the Liberty Flames at home on Thursday.

]]>The Liberty Flames are 8-3 (5-3) this year after they lost to Sam Houston by a score of 20-18 in their last game. Liberty trailed 20-9 in the fourth quarter, but they did score twice, before getting stopped on the two point conversion for the loss. The Flames were out gained by a total of 333-262, lost the turnover battle 2-1, and went 3-16 on third down in the game. Kaidon Salter threw for 83 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, while Quinton Cooley rushed for 90 yards on 19 carries in the game.
Liberty has wins over Campbell, New Mexico State, UTEP, East Carolina, FIU, Middle Tennessee, UMass, and Western Kentucky, while also losing to Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State. The Liberty offense has scored 30.9 points per game with 175.8 passing yards and 259.5 rushing yards per game, while the defense has allowed 23.3 points against per game this season. Liberty will not have their starting quarterback in this game, as Salter is transferring, and they are expected to have quite a few starters miss the game as well.
The Buffalo Bulls are 8-4 (6-2) this season after they defeated Kent State by a score of 43-7 in their last game. Buffalo led 26-0 at halftime and cruised to the victory in the second half. The Bulls out gained Kent State by a total of 446-208, lost the turnover battle 2-1, and went 9-15 on third down in the game. CJ Ogbonna threw for 193 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, while Al-Jay Henderson rushed for 185 yards and one score in the game.
Buffalo also has wins against Lafayette, UMass, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Akron, Ball State, and Eastern Michigan, while losing to Missouri, UConn, Western Michigan, and Ohio. The Buffalo offense has scored 29.1 points per game with 190.4 passing yards and 164.7 rushing yards per game, while the defense has allowed 28 points against per game this season. CJ Ogbonna has completed 57.1% of his passes for 2,244 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while Al-Jay Henderson has rushed for 959 yards and eight scores this year.
Buffalo comes into this matchup on a four game winning streak and they will have most of their team intact for this game. The Bulls have a very high powered offense, but their defense has struggled for most of the season. Liberty has won three of their last four games, but they will be using a backup quarterback. The Flames were inconsistent this season, even in some of their wins, and I don’t feel good about their chances without Salter. Take Buffalo here.

]]>Liberty comes into this game with an 8-2 record overall and they are coming off another victory in the last game. Liberty scored 38 points, while the defense gave up 21 points and that was enough for the 17-point victory. The defense was good and they had three interceptions. Quarterback Kaidon Slater at times has been a bit inconsistent and he completed 6 of his 11 passes for 108 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. Quinton Cooley did have a strong game finishing with 24 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Liberty is averaging 32 points while their defense is giving up 23.6 points per game. The offense is ranked 39th while the defense is ranked 59th. In this game, Liberty is going to need a big game from Slater.
Sam Houston struggled in the last game against Jacksonville State and the offense was a big reason why. Sam Houston State scored only 11 points and they ended up losing by 10 points. Quarterback Hunter Watson wasn’t good enough and he completed 13 of his 25 passes for 84 yards. He did have a strong game on the ground though rushing 21 times for 105 yards and a touchdown. Sam Houston State is averaging 23.5 points while their defense is giving up 20.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 101st in the league while the defense is ranked 23rd in the league. In this game, Sam Houston State is going to need the offense to get out to a fast starter start.
Sam Houston State’s defense is going to step up i na big way and that is going to be the difference here. The Bearkats are giving up 20.2 points per game and they are going to step up in a big way again. Sam Houston State is going to get a bad quarterback play again though, and that will be the difference here. This game is going to struggle to get to 70 points here. Back the under to cash here.

Alyn Breed is averaging 17.5 points and 3 rebounds, while Sincere Parker is averaging 15 points and 0.4 assists. The McNeese Cowboys are playing well enough to give an honest look, and their offense is rolling. However, it’s the Liberty Flames that have more balance to their attack, and they’re 5-1 ATS on the season. Liberty has held 7 of its last 8 opponents under 70 points. That defensive pressure usually works in a team’s favor when playing a second game in as many days. Give me Liberty and whatever the line is.

]]>Liberty faced off against Louisiana in the last game and it was a dominant victory. Liberty scored 89 points and the defense gave up only 69 points on the way to the win. Liberty shot 67.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep. Liberty on the season is averaging 76.8 points while their defense is giving up 60.8 points per game. The offense is ranked 192nd in the league while the defense is ranked 25th in the league. Kaden Methany is averaging 15.4 points while shooting 42 percent from the field.
Kansas State only has one loss this season but overall they haven’t been very dominant. In the last game against George Washington, the defense gave up 71 points, but the offense scored 83 points, and they ended up winning by 12 points. At halftime, they were up 46-27 and in the second half, they held on for the victory. David N’Guessan had a strong game putting up 17 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. There were five different players that put up at least 10 points. In this game, it’s going to be about getting out to a fast start again. David N’Guessan has been the top player for the Wildcats overall this season averaging 15.2 points while shooting 72.1 percent from the field.
Give me Liberty here. This Kansas State squad has not lived up to the expectations this season, and that is going to be the difference here. Kansas State needs to get the offense out to a fast but that’s not what is going to happen here. Liberty is going to go over their season average of 76.8 points per game, and it’s going to be Liberty that gets the job done. Back Liberty against the spread.

The Hilltoppers faced off against Lousiana Tech and they scored only seven points on the way to the defeat. Caden Veltkamp completed 17 of his 26 passes for 152 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. In this game, the offense is going to need to be a whole lot better. If the offense struggles, this will be a long game. Western Kentucky has been averaging 28 points per game so far this season. This ranks their offense in the 64th position in college football. Their defense has allowed for an average of 21.1 points per game, ranking them 35th in comparison to other defenses.
Liberty comes into this game with a 7-2 record overall but they almost suffered an awful loss in the last game. It took overtime but they were able to secure the 35-34 victory in overtime. Kaidon Slater wasn’t good enough and he completed 9 of his 16 passes for 114 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. Running back Quinton Cooley had a huge game though finishing with 20 carries for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Liberty has been averaging 31.3 points per game. Offensively, they are ranked 41st amongst others so far this season in college football. Their defense has given up an average of 23.89 points per game. This ranks them 63rd when compared to other defenses in college football.
Give me Western Kentucky to pull the upset here. I am not sold on Slater under center, and I do trust the Hilltoppers defense. Western Kentucky’s defense is giving up 21.1 points per game and they are going to step up in a big way here. Liberty is going to have no answer and it’s going to be Western Kentucky that is going to get the job done here. Back Western Kentucky against the spread. This is one of my favorite plays on the board.

The Liberty Flames are off to a fine start and are getting after it defensively, but they haven’t quite had the toughest schedule. The FAU Owls still have talent from a year ago, and it’s likely only a matter of time before things start to turn around. This is a winnable game and FAU shoots well, Liberty doesn’t have the firepower to keep up. I like FAU to get a much-needed bounce-back victory.

Kaidon Salter leads the Flames with 1,581 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions on 60.3% passing while Quinton Cooley has rushed for 851 yards and 8 touchdowns. Salter’s added 440 rushing yards with 3 scores and Billy Lucas has added 378 rushing yards with 4 TDs as well. Treon Sibley has a team-high 414 receiving yards with 2 touchdowns while Elijah Cannon has 308 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Tyson Mobley also has 237 receiving yards on the year for Liberty as well. On defense, Joseph Carter leads the Flames with 57 total tackles while TJ Bush Jr. has a team-high 5.5 sacks on the year. Dexter Ricks Jr. also has a pair of interceptions. As a unit, Liberty’s defense has combined for 17 sacks and 4 interceptions so far this season.
The UMass Minutemen come into this one looking to bounce back from a 45-20 loss at the hands of Mississippi State last time out, prior to their bye week last week. After this game, UMass will square off against Georgia on the road.
Taisun Phommachanh has thrown for 1,590 yards, 8 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions on 56.4% passing while also rushing for 317 yards and 3 scores. CJ Hester has 349 rushing yards and 2 TDs while Jalen John and Brandon Campbell each have 200+ rushing yards as well on the year. Jakobie Keeney-Kames has a team-high 36 receptions for 595 yards and 4 touchdowns while T.Y. Harding and Jacquon Gibson each have 200+ receiving yards with Harding logging 258 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Three more Minutemen have 100+ receiving yards as well on the year. On defense, Jalen Stewart has a team-high 59 total tackles while the UMass defense as a whole has combined for 11 sacks and 4 interceptions so far this season.
I’m leaning towards UMass, though there are much better games on the board. I’ve thought Liberty was slightly overrated since the start of the year and this is basically a sandwich-nothing game for the Flames as they’re bowl eligible, and this game does not affect their standing or help them stay in the C-USA title race. UMass hasn’t had much to be excited about this year, but I think the Flames give out a maximum effort here and get the cover with a shot at the outright upset.

]]>The Gamecocks started out 0-3 with losses to Coastal Carolina, Louisville, and Eastern Michigan. The good news is that Jacksonville State recovered from there to take out Southern Miss, Kennesaw State, and New Mexico State in the next trio of outings.
Jacksonville State kept their win streak going last Wednesday versus Middle Tennessee. The Gamecocks scored 14 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second during a 42-20 victory. QB Tyler Huff logged 137 yards with one TD. Huff had 151 ground yards and two scores, but Tre Stewart did most of the running on 210 yards and a score of his own.
Over on the Liberty side, they got off to a nice start with four straight wins over Campbell, New Mexico State, UTEP, and East Carolina. The Flames had a game canceled versus Appalachian State, then took out FIU 31-24 the next week.
Liberty took their first loss of the season last week versus Kennesaw State. The Flames were outscored 13-10 in the second half during a 27-24 result. QB Kaidon Salter logged 206 yards with three scores and an interception while also leading the rush with 87 yards on nine totes.
I’m going to stay with Liberty. The Flames need a good bounce-back here following a disappointing loss to a struggling Kennesaw State team, though. Liberty put up 386 yards in that one (206 passing) with 22 first downs, nine penalties, and just 27:41 in time of possession. Overall the defense was adequate but couldn’t generate any takeaways and gave up 7-of-14 on third downs.
As for Jacksonville State, they put on a rushing clinic in their blowout win over Middle Tennessee. The Gamecocks mustered a whopping 438 ground yards (575 total) in that one along the way to 30 first downs. This week’s matchup should be a pretty good one. I like Liberty to eke out a cover in a return to form, but they’ve got to slow down the run.

]]>The Flames’ season has gone quite well so far with a string of wins—some closer than others. The opener was a 41-24 win over Campbell, then came a 30-24 escape versus New Mexico State and a 28-10 win over UTEP. Liberty would then beat East Carolina before a canceled game versus App State.
In their last outing versus FIU, the Flames were outscored 14-7 in the fourth quarter but survived in overtime for a 31-24 victory. QB Kaidon Salter finished with 125 yards and two rush scores. Quinton Cooley posted 29 carries for 174 yards and two touchdowns of his own.
Over on the Kennesaw State side, they’ve been on the opposite trajectory this season. The Owls posted losses to UTSA 28-16, Louisiana 34-10 and San Jose State 31-10 in their first trio. The next pair were losses to TN-Martin 24-13 and Jacksonville State 63-24.
Back on October 15 against Middle Tennessee, Kennesaw State took another defeat. The Owls put up a 7-3 deficit in the second half on the way to a 14-5 result. QB Khalib Johnson finished with 52 yards and two interceptions. Qua Ashley rushed 11 times for 79 yards to lead the team on the ground.
I’ll probably still lean toward Liberty here. Also probably not touching it, though. Due to the canceled Appalachian State game, the Flames haven’t seen the field much lately. By the time they hit the grass here, they’ll have played just one game since September 21. Liberty still won that game, but they weren’t perfect. The Flames committed nine penalties and went just 4-of-11 on third-down tries.
As for Kennesaw State, they didn’t play too badly on defense versus Middle Tennessee, giving up 284 yards (199 passing) and 5-of-16 on third-down tries. The Owls could only muster 234 yards themselves, however. All things considered, Liberty should dominate here, but the Flames may be a little rusty due to all the inactivity.

]]>Quinton Cooley has finished with at least 105 rushing yards, and he’s going to have another huge game. In his last game against East Carolina, he finished with 19 carries for 105 yards. This FIU defense has really struggled against good running backs, and that’s exactly what they are facing here. Cooley is going to have a huge game here and finish with at least 120 rushing yards.
Everyone seems to be counting out FIU, and I am not so sure why, this team isn’t that bad. Sure they lost to Monmouth, that isn’t good, but in the last game against the Louisiana Tech, the defense gave up only 10 points. Liberty’s offense is good, but FIU’s defense is going to step up here. It might not be enough to shut them out, but it’s going to be enough to keep this game close. Back FIU getting the points.
Sure, Treon Sibley wasn’t elite in the last game, but he has been good overall this season. In three of the four games he had at least 77 receiving yards, In two of the games has finished with at least 109 receiving yards. FIU’s defense is going to surprise some people here, but they aren’t going to shutout Sibley. He always does a good job of getting his catches, and he’s going to do it again here. Sibley will go for at least 50 yards.
Keyone Jenkins is going to have a solid passing game here for FIU. Two games ago against Monmouth, when they scored 42 points, Jenkins finished with 362 yards and two touchdowns. FIU is going to need to score here, and Jenkins is going to have plenty of success through the air. Back Jenkins to throw at least 221 passing yards.

]]>Before we look at who should be in your Pick6 lineup, let’s go over a reminder about how the contest works. The goal for participants is to make more correct picks than the other participants in each contest. Winning entries receive a share of the available prizes. In Pick6, participants can build lineups of between 2 and 6 players and compete against participants with the same lineup size. The more picks you include in a lineup, the higher a payout could be.
Kaidon Salter is going to have a strong game for Liberty, but that isn’t going to include a ton of rushing yards. In two of the last three games, Slater has finished with 24 or fewer yards and even in the game that he did go over the number he finished with 36 yards. In college, sacks lower the rushing yards of a quarterback, and that is going to hurt him here also. Salter will finish under 31.5 rushing yards.
Two games ago FIU let Rodney Nelson from Monmouth rush for 117 yards, and it’s going to be much of the same here. On the season, Cooley has rushed 53 times for 571 yards and four touchdowns. Cooley has finished with at least 105 yards in three of the four games, and it’s going to be much of the same here. FIU is going to really struggle to defend here, and the over is going to cash here.
Dean Patterson is going to have a huge game here for FIU. In each of the last three games, Patterson has been target a ton, and he has finished with at least 68 yards. In the last game against Louisiana Tech, Patterson finished with five catches for 74 yards. Liberty is going to struggle to defend against Patterson, and the over 60.5 receiving yards is going to cash here.

]]>The Florida International Panthers lost to Monmouth, beat Louisiana Tech, and they play UTEP next. The Florida International Panthers have lost 4 straight road games. Keyone Jenkins is completing 62.8 percent of his passes for 1,104 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. Eric Rivers and Dean Patterson have combined for 612 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns, while Josiah Miamen has 10 receptions.
The Florida International Panthers ground game is averaging 105 yards per contest, and Kejon Owens leads the way with 213 yards and 3 touchdowns. Defensively, FIU is allowing 28 points and 408 yards per game. Travion Barnes leads the Florida International Panthers with 54 tackles, Keegan Davis has 2 sacks and Brian Blades II has 1 interception.
The Liberty Flames just beat UTEP and East Carolina, and they play Kennesaw State next. The Liberty Flames look for back-to-back 5-0 starts. Kaidon Salter is completing 64.1 percent of his passes for 949 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Treon Sibley and Tyson Mobley have combined for 496 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, while Reese Smith has 9 receptions.
The Liberty Flames ground game is averaging 216.5 yards per contest, and Quinton Cooley leads the way with 371 yards and 4 touchdowns. Defensively, Liberty is allowing 20.5 points and 312.8 yards per game. Joseph Carter leads the Liberty Flames with 26 tackles, TJ Bush Jr. has 4.5 sacks and Dexter Ricks Jr. has 2 interceptions.
The FIU Panthers aren’t a good team on either side of the ball, and I usually fade them with confidence. I don’t want much to do with FIU. However, the Liberty Flames haven’t played in a couple of weeks, and who knows how they’re going to look with a long layoff. With that said, Liberty is 0-3 ATS this season as a double-digit favorite and is 4-13 ATS in its last 17 games overall as a double-digit favorite. That’s rather concerning, seeing this big number. It’s FIU and the points or pass for me.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers beat East Carolina, lost to South Alabama, and they play Marshall next. Appalachian State has won 4 of its last 5 home games. Joey Aguilar is completing 56.7 percent of his passes for 1,230 yards, 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Kaedin Robinson and Christian Horn have combined for 666 receiving yards and 1 touchdown, while Makai Jackson has 16 receptions.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers ground game is averaging 130.8 yards per contest, and Anderson Castle leads the way with 184 yards and 1 touchdown. Defensively, Appalachian State is allowing 35.8 points and 453.8 yards per game. DJ Burks leads the Appalachian State Mountaineers with 30 tackles, Santana Hopper has 2 sacks and Seth Robertson has 1 interception.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers are supposed to be better than what they’ve shown, as they were pegged a contender in the Sun Belt before the season. The problem is Appalachian State can’t finish drives offensively and has been a disaster defensively. Appalachian State nearly lost to East Carolina and got rocked by South Alabama as 7.5 point favorites. I want nothing to do with Appalachian State. The Liberty Flames have just two covers in their last eight games, but they’re a balanced squad and the team to beat in the CUSA. Liberty should remain undefeated.
Give me the Flames by a touchdown or two on the road.

]]>Liberty has impressed to start the season and they come into this game with a 3-0 record. Liberty in the last game faced off against UTEP and they were able to secure a 28-10 victory. Liberty’s offense wasn’t exactly elite in the last game but they still scored the 28 points. Quarterback Kaiden Salter completed 15 of his 19 passes for 228 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions.
Billy Lucas had a huge game putting up 21 carries for 104 yards and three touchdowns. In two of the three games the defense gave up 24 points and that’s something that could be improved upon. In this game, the Liberty’s going to need the offense to put on a show and Slater is going to put on a show.
East Carolina won the first two games of the season but in the last game against Appalachian State, they fell just short. At the end of the first quarter, East Carolina was up 16-0, but they only scored three points the rest of the game and ended up losing 22-19. Jake Garcia did have a strong game completing 18 of his 28 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Rahjai Harris also finished with 18 carries for 87 yards.
Two games ago against Old Dominion, East Carolina was also tested but they ended up winning 20-14. In that game, Jake Garica threw four touchdowns and they can’t let that happen again here. East Carolina needs to find the offensive success early and not take the foot off the gas.
East Carolina can keep this game close. Jake Garcia threw for 226 yards in the last game and he’s going to find the offensive success again here. He is going to limit the turnovers. The better quarterback in this game is Slater but he hasn’t been as good as he was last season. Liberty’s offense isn’t going to be running up the score here, and it’s going to be East Carolina that is going to keep this game close. Back East Carolina against the spread here.

]]>The Miners’ opener matchup was against Nebraska. That one didn’t go so well as UTEP gave up 23 second-quarter points in a 40-7 loss. Skyler Locklear bagged 115 yards, a TD, and an interception. Kam Thomas led the receivers with seven catches for 71 yards and a score.
Matched up against Southern Utah on Saturday, the Miners held a 17-6 halftime lead but ultimately fell in overtime 27-24. Locklear managed 295 yards and a TD. Thomas led the receivers again on 99 yards from five catches. UTEP will take on Colorado State after this game.
Over on the Flames’ side, they played Campbell in their first matchup. Liberty scored double-digits in the final three quarters during a 41-24 win. QB Kaidon Salter had 242 yards and two touchdowns. Quinton Cooley led the rush with 110 yards and a TD.
In the New Mexico State game on Saturday, the Flames were in trouble with a 17-9 deficit going into the final quarter. Liberty scored three touchdowns from there however and won 30-24. Salter had 256 yards this time, and Cooley bagged 12 carries for 111 yards and two scores.
I’m leaning toward Liberty but probably staying away. The Flames had some rough numbers on offense despite notching 473 total yards (217 rushing) and 7.4 yards per play. Liberty went just 1-of-11 on third-down tries, resulting in 28:56 in time of possession. Another major killer was the 11 penalties for 122 yards.
As for UTEP, they played a sloppy game themselves with 14 penalties for 122 yards in their loss last weekend. The Miners had a pretty good offensive game (423 total yards) overall but weren’t great on thirds themselves (5-of-16). This one’s probably a toss-up proposition cover-wise, but I’m leaning Flames.
