The Bulldogs are shooting over 49% from the field and they are scoring 87.2 points per game this season. I think we are going to see plenty of points in this matchup and I like the over here.

Saint Mary’s Gaels Betting Preview

The Gaels have been a pretty sharp team this year. They’re sitting on a nice win streak right now and have yet to lose consecutive games. Saint Mary’s took out Towson, Chattanooga, Akron, Nebraska, Stanislaus State, Cal Poly, and USC in their first seven games, then lost to Arizona State. A 3-2 run came next with losses to Boise State and Utah State among wins over UTSA, Utah, and Merrimack, then another win streak. Those victories have come versus Pacific, Pepperdine, Portland, Loyola Marymount, San Diego, Pepperdine again, San Francisco, Washington State, Santa Clara, and Gonzaga in succession. The result so far has been a nice 20-3 overall record for the Gaels through the first 23 games of the season.

In the Gonzaga matchup over the weekend, the Gaels were up 36-28 by halftime. Saint Mary’s hit a 30-26 deficit the rest of the way but held on for a 62-58 win in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Mikey Lewis, who came off the bench for 16 points, one rebound, and one assist in 22 minutes of action. Paulius Murauskas added 12 points with eight rebounds and Jordan Ross had 10 points with four rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes. Mitchell Saxen chipped in nine points with 11 rebounds in 31 minutes of work on the floor as well.

San Francisco Dons Betting Preview

Over on the San Francisco side, they’ve similarly been quite consistent this year. The Dons have only lost consecutive games once so far themselves. San Francisco beat Cal Poly, Boise State, Long Beach State, and Chicago State ahead of losses to Memphis and Clemson. The next 10 games were a 9-1 run with a lone loss to Bradley amid wins over Fordham, Mercyhurst, Saint Louis, Stanislaus State, Loyola Chicago, Montana, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, and Pacific. Since then it’s been a fairly choppy 5-3 run with losses to Washington State, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary’s among wins over Portland, Pepperdine, Oregon State, San Diego, and Washington State, giving the Dons an 18-6 record through their first 24 games this year.

In the Washington State game back on Saturday, the Dons were in the locker room with a 38-26 advantage. San Francisco kept it up in the second half with a 37-25 run and took the eventual victory 75-51 in the end. Marcus Williams led the way with 17 points, six boards, seven assists, and three steals. Junjie Wang put up 16 points and five rebounds in 29 minutes, and Ryan Beasley had 14 points with six rebounds and four assists. Jason Rivera-Torres added nine points with nine rebounds in 16 minutes of work off the bench as well.

San Francisco vs Saint Mary’s Prediction

I’m going to stay with Saint Mary’s. You could make a case either way here, though; we should have a pretty great matchup in store if both teams play well. The Gaels weren’t at their best in the Gonzaga win though, shooting a measly 38.2 percent from the field and an ugly 50 percent (11-of-22) from the line. Saint Mary’s preserved the home win with a 40-34 rebounding edge and a strong first half, however. The Gaels have been below 68 points in consecutive games now, following 70 or more in eight straight victories prior to that.

The last time these teams met up back on January 23, the Gaels powered out a 71-51 win at home. Saint Mary’s shot very well in that one (61.5 percent) and the Dons didn’t (26.9 percent). The 37-25 rebounding edge in favor of the Gaels really helped as well, not to mention the 19-9 advantage on team assists. San Francisco should do better in the home rematch, but I like Saint Mary’s to power it out—provided the Gaels can get that shooting percentage up.

Clemson Tigers Betting Preview

I’ll probably go with San Francisco here. The Dons are coming off a rough second half versus a pretty good Memphis team though, and they’ll need a big turnaround Monday. In the loss to the Tigers San Francisco put up just 32.8 percent shooting overall and 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from 3-point range. It was the first time all year that the Dons had failed to register at least 82 points.

As for Clemson, they’re coming off a solid effort against a Radford squad that’s pretty good for its level. The Tigers mustered 51 percent shooting from the floor in that one with 36 rebounds and 12 team assists. Clemson has scored 71 or more points in every game so far. San Francisco is really going to have to hit the gas on offense in order to stick out a cover/win pace, but I think the Dons can pull it off if all goes well.

Memphis Tigers Betting Preview

Memphis hasn’t been quite so busy as many other teams yet this year with only three games in the books. All three have been victories though. The Tigers took out Missouri 83-75 in their opener and UNLV 80-74 in game two to kick things off.

On Friday versus Ohio, the Tigers were up 43-38 by halftime. Memphis rolled in the second half on a 51-32 stretch and took the blowout win 94-70. Tops in scoring was PJ Haggerty with 23 points and seven rebounds. Tyrese Hunter added 21 points.

Over on the Dons’ side, they’ve got four games in the can this year, and all four have been wins. San Francisco beat Cal Poly 86-78 in the opener, then took out Boise State 84-73. Game three was an 84-54 blowout win over Long Beach State.

Matched up against Chicago State on Saturday, the Dons took their biggest win yet. San Francisco was up 44-12 at halftime and scored 38 more points from there in an 82-37 blowout. Tyrone Riley was tops on 28 points with three boards.

I’ll stay with San Francisco. The Dons have been pretty impressive so far, dispatching all comers with four straight victories. San Francisco held an overmatched Chicago State team to just 23.6 percent shooting in their last outing and had a 47-33 rebounding edge. That makes 82 or more points in every game so far for the Dons.

As for Memphis, they’re coming off a good effort versus Ohio featuring a blistering 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from 3-point range and 19 team assists. The Tigers have looked pretty good themselves so far this year; we should be in for a fun matchup here. In the end, I think the Dons have a slightly better cover (and potential win) chance, though.

Boise State is Talented

Boise State is talented and if the first game was any indiciation, this could be a ery big year for them. Boise State’s offense scored 87 points against Oakland, while the defense gave up 43 points and that led to the blowout victory. At halftime they were up 48-18 and in the second half they never looked back on the way to the win. Andrew Meadow and O’Mar Stanley both put up 15 points. Tyson Degenhart is the star of the team and put up 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists. In this game if Boise State wants to find success, it’s going to be about the offense running up the score again. 

San Francisco Pushed the Pace

San Francisco faced off against Cal Poly in the first game and they sure looked good, especially with the offense. San Francsico’s offense put up 86 points and even though the defense wasn’t great they still ended up winning by eight points. At halftime they were up by four points, and in the half they scored 47 points to come out on top. Tyrone Riley IV had a strong game putting up 26 points and two rebounds. Malik Thomas also stepped up putting up 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists. The offense sure made a statement in the first game but if they want to come out on top the defnese is going ot need to be better. If the defense struggles, this is going to be a very long game. 

San Francisco vs Boise State Prediction

Give me the over here. This San Francisco offense is clearly good and in the first game they put up 86 points. Their defense was an issue in the first game though and their defense is going to be a very big issue again here. Boise State is the more talented team on the paper and they are going to have no issue running up the score here. There will be zero defense played and this game is going to go over the total.

Cal Poly Mustangs Betting Preview

The Mustangs are coming off a forgettable season in 2023-24. Cal Poly went just 4-28 with a dismal 0-20 run in the Big West. The Mustangs landed in last place by seven games behind CSU Fullerton and didn’t notch a win after December 21.

You can beat on the dregs like Pacific and Portland all you want, but at some points you have to step it up and Gonzaga’s had trouble with that. Still, you can’t argue with the Dons’ offense lately; they’ve hit 72 or more points in four straight games (a 3-1 run).

As for Pepperdine, they’re on a rough five-game losing streak but their last two defeats have each come by four points or fewer. The Waves should be more comfortable at home in this one, but I don’t think they’ve got the gas to keep pace with the Dons.
