On the other side, USC has a respectable lineup that’s been able to hang offensively in recent games despite not being the most consistent at winning games, putting up 70+ in 8 of their last 10 games overall. I think this is going to be a bit of a track meet, so give me the over.

Can Oregon State Win Second Straight?

Oregon State has been up and down, but they have come off a big win in the last game. Orgon State faced off against Pacific in the last game and they were able to secure the 79-65 victory. Josiah Lake had a strong game putting up 16 points, five rebounds,  and two assists. There were six different players that put up at least 11 points, and they are going to need a balanced offensive attack again here. In the second half the defense gave up only 25 points and they are going to need the defense to step up in a big way again here. 

Oregon State sits with an 18-9 record overall and they have gone 18-9 against the spread and they have gone 17-8 against the spread. Oregon State is averaging 76.5 points while their defense is giving up 67.76 points per game. The offense has been good, but the defense has actually been the strength and is ranked 63rd in the league. Michael Rataj is averaging 17.1 points while shooting 49.5 percent from the field.

Can Pepperdine Bounce Back?

Two games ago, Pepperdine faced off against San Diego, and they were able to secure an 88-81 victory. In the last game against Gonzaga though, it wasn’t much of the same, and they ended up losing 107-55. At halftime they were down 55-26 and in the second half they couldn’t get anything better. Danilo Dozic did have a strong game putting up 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists. There were three players who found offensive success,  but outside of those there just wasn’t any production. 

Pepperdine sits with a 10-17 record overall and they have gone 12-14 against the spread. At home this season they sit with a 6-7 record overall. Pepperdine is averaging 72.2 points while their defense is giving up 75.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 238th in the league while the defense is ranked 276th. Stefan Todorovic has been the top player this season averaging 18.7 points while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from behind the three point line.

Oregon State is going to get the job done here with ease. Pepperdine’s defense is giving up 75.2 points per game, and they are going to really struggle to defend here. Oregon State is averaging 76.5 points per game, and they are going to put on an offensive show here. UMBC Fell Just Short

UMBC has been inconsistent and they fell just short in the last game against Bryant. UMBC scored 79 points, but the defense gave up 81 points and that led to the two point defeat. Marlon Short had a strong game putting up 23 points, four rebounds, and two assists. There were five different players that put up at least 10 points. In this game, it’s going to need to be a balanced attack, but the defense is going to need to be a whole lot better. Two games ago against Binghamton, UMBC scored 81 points and they won by four points. 

UMBC sits with a 12-15 record overall and they have gone 11-13 against the spread. The over has hit in 16 of the games. UMBC is averaging 80.3 points while their defense is giving up 77.4 points per game. The offense is ranked 44th in the league while the defense is ranked 320th in the league. They are shooting 48.8 percent from the field. Guard Bryce Johnson is averaging 16.7 points while shooting 51.2 percent from the field.

UMass Lowell defense Has Issues

The UMass Lowell defense has some major issues, and they have lost three games in a row. Two games ago against Albany they were defeated 90-88 and in the last game against New Hampshire they were defeated 80-79. At halftime against the Wildcats, they were up 10 points, but in the second half, they blew the game late. Quinton Mincey had a strong game putting up 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists. There were four different players that ended up putting up at least 12 ponts.

Northwestern comes into this matchup after losing six of their last seven games and they will be back on the road here. The Wildcats are dealing with injuries to some key players and they are just 0-7 in their last seven road games. Northwestern has struggled defensively over the last few weeks, as they have allowed at least 75 points in 10 of their last 13 games. Ohio State has had trouble stringing wins together over the last few weeks, but they cannot afford a loss in this matchup. The Buckeyes are shooting 47.6% from the field this year and they have also had some defensive issues recently, but I like them in this spot. I don’t think Northwestern can score consistently enough with the injuries they are dealing with, so give me the Buckeyes at home.

Loyola Marymount Lions Betting Preview

So far this year Loyola Marymount has had a few rough runs. In all however, the Lions have been able to keep their heads above the .500 mark in the record column. LMU opened on a 3-4 stretch with losses to UC Irvine, Saint Louis, North Dakota and Colorado State alongside wins over Life Pacific, Belmont and Wyoming. After wins over Nevada, Prairie View, UC Santa Barbara, Southern and North Alabama, the Lions hit a 1-4 run with a lone win over Oregon State. The losses otherwise were versus San Francisco, Washington State, Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s. LMU would beat Santa Clara, San Diego, Pacific, Portland and San Diego in the next five, and since then it’s been a 1-4 run with a win over Pepperdine. The Lions have otherwise lost to Gonzaga, San Francisco, Pacific and Portland in that time, giving the team a 15-12 record through their first 27 outings of the season.

LMU was down by one point at halftime in their last outing versus Portland. The Lions ended up falling further behind in the second with a 57-47 deficit and lost the game 89-78 in the end. Leading the team in the losing effort was Caleb Stone-Carrawell with 18 points and five rebounds in 36 minutes of work. Will Johnston added 17 points with three assists and two boards, while Jevon Porter had 16 points with six rebounds in 35 minutes out there.

Santa Clara Broncos Betting Preview

Over on the Santa Clara side, they’ve got a rough spot or two in the books themselves but overall they’re not doing too badly. The Broncos opened on a 3-5 run though, taking losses to Arizona State, North Dakota State, Nevada and Stanford. A win streak over McNeese, Fresno State, Bradley, Kennesaw State, South Dakota and Pepperdine came next, then a 5-4 run with losses to San Francisco, LMU, Oregon State and Saint Mary’s. The Broncos otherwise beat San Diego, Oregon State, San Francisco, Gonzaga and Washington State in that time. Since then it’s been wins over Pacific, Portland and San Diego before a loss to Saint Mary’s. That gives the Broncos a 17-10 overall record though their first 27 games this season so far.

Matched up against Saint Mary’s on the road last week, the Broncos were down by seven going into the second half. Santa Clara didn’t get any better from there on a 36-34 deficit and took the loss 73-64. Johnny O’Neil led the team with 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Jake Ensminger led the bench scoring with 13 points, three boards and three steals, while Camaron Tongue had 11 points with two rebounds in 14 minutes on the floor.

Why the Santa Clara Broncos will win

• Santa Clara has won each of its last 15 Thursday games at Leavey Center.
• Loyola Marymount has lost four of its last five games.
• Loyola Marymount has lost the first half in six of its last seven road night games against the West Coast Conference.

Why the Loyola Marymount Lions will win

• Loyola Marymount has won three of its last four games against Santa Clara following a road loss.
• Loyola Marymount has won the first half in four of its last five games at Leavey Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Santa Clara vs Loyola Marymount Prediction

I’m staying with Santa Clara. The Broncos are coming off a pretty limp loss on the road versus a good Saint Mary’s team though, so they’ll need to show some life here. Santa Clara shot just 40.4 percent from the field in that one with a 31-28 rebounding deficit and 12 turnovers for 15 Gaels points. The Broncos gave up 53.2 percent shooting on the other side and just couldn’t keep pace. Santa Clara had won three straight prior to that though, with 83 or more points in all three games.

The Broncos managed to take a 57-54 loss on the road the last time these teams saw each other back on January 16. Santa Clara shot just 36.2 percent from the field in that one and had 13 turnovers for 12 LMU points, so needless to say there’s plenty to clean up. I like the Broncos to notch a better effort in the home rematch, though.

Wichita State Shockers Betting Preview

Wichita State had an extended rough stretch of games back in December and January, but aside from that they’ve been pretty good record-wise this year. The Shockers won eight of their first nine games, taking out Western Kentucky, Montana State, Northern Iowa, Monmouth, Saint Louis, Minnesota, Alcorn State and East Tennessee State in that time. A 3-9 run came next with wins over Kansas State, Friends U and Charlotte. The losses otherwise were versus DePaul, Kansas City, Temple, South Florida, UTSA, East Carolina, Memphis, Tulsa and North Texas. Since then Wichita State has recovered with four straight wins, taking out Charlotte, South Florida, UTSA and Memphis in that time. Overall through the first 25 games of the season that gives the Shockers a 15-10 record so far.

In the Memphis home rematch on Sunday, the Shockers were up by four points at the break. Wichita State needed overtime in the end, but they’d eventually power out the upset victory 84-79. Leading the team in the big win was Quincy Ballard with 19 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Corey Washington doubled up with his 18 points and 15 rebounds in 41 minutes, while Bijan Cortes had 13 points with six rebounds and four assists in 37 minutes. Tops in scoring off the bench was Harlond Beverly with 11 points, six assists and two blocks.

Florida Atlantic Owls Betting Preview

Over on the Florida Atlantic side, they’ve had a pretty choppy year in spots but they’ve been able to maintain the same record in the books. The Owls went 4-5 in their first nine outings, falling versus UCF, Charleston, Drake, Seton Hall and Florida Gulf Coast among wins versus Indiana State, Coastal Georgia, Liberty and Oklahoma State. A 5-2 run came next with losses to Michigan State and Memphis among wins over FIU, Jacksonville, Texas State, East Carolina and Charlotte. After a 1-3 run with a win over Rice among losses to UAB, Tulane and North Texas, Florida Atlantic hit a win streak. Those victories have come versus UTSA, South Florida, Tulsa, Charlotte and Temple, giving the Owls a 15-10 record through 25 games this season.

Matched up against Temple on Sunday, the Owls held a 40-35 deficit coming into the second half. FAU hit a 48-41 run the rest of the way however, leading to an 83-81 comeback victory. Tre Carroll led the way among starters in the win with 16 points, seven boards and one assist with four blocks. Tops on the team in total was Kaleb Glenn with 17 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal in 32 minutes off the bench. Leland Walker added 12 points with two assists and two steals in 21 minutes of work as well.

• Florida Atlantic has won 38 of its last 41 games at Abessinio Court at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
• Wichita State has lost eight of its last nine Thursday night road games against the American Athletic Conference.

Why the Wichita State Shockers will win

• Wichita State has won each of its last four games.
• Wichita State has won the first half in seven of its last eight road night games against the American Athletic Conference.

Florida Atlantic vs Wichita State Prediction

I’ll try Florida Atlantic here. You could make a case either way, though. This should be a pretty good matchup if both teams play to their capabilities. FAU started slowly in their latest road win over Temple, but ultimately finished with a decent effort. The Owls went just 5-of-24 (20.8 percent) from the line though, and had 12 turnovers for 15 Temple points. Still, the victory keeps FAU’s run going. They’ve now got five wins in a row, hitting 79 or more points in each of those outings (and 83 or more in four of them).

As for Wichita State, they logged a great effort versus a talented Memphis team in their upset win Over the weekend. The Shockers hit just 40 percent from the field but also notched a 54-45 rebounding edge and had only eight turnovers. This should be another dramatic game, but I like the Owls to take it at home in the end.

New Hampshire Wildcats Betting Preview

It’s been a tough year so far for New Hampshire. Prior to this month the Wildcats had only one instance of consecutive wins, but they’ve been doing better lately. New Hampshire opened up the season on a 2-6 run though, taking losses to UMass, UConn, Fairfield, Brown, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross. A losing streak versus Marist, Columbia, Fordham, Dartmouth, Harvard, Stonehill, Iowa, Vermont and Albany came next, then wins over Binghamton and UMBC. After losses to NJIT, Bryant, UMass Lowell and Maine, the Wildcats have since gone 3-1 with a lone loss to Vermont. The wins otherwise in that time have come courtesy of UMBC, NJIT and UMass Lowell. That gives New Hampshire a 7-20 overall run through 27 games this year.

In the UMass Lowell matchup back on Saturday, the Wildcats came out of the break with a 38-28 deficit. New Hampshire woke up after the first half though, hitting a 52-41 run the rest of the way for an 80-79 comeback victory. Leading the team in scoring was Sami Pissis with 21 points, six assists, two steals and two rebounds. Khalil Badru had 13 points with four rebounds and two steals, while Jawarie Hamelin added 11 points with four steals. Anthony McComb led the bench scoring with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes of action.

Binghamton Bearcats Betting Preview

Over on the Binghamton side, they had a good run going back in December, but aside from that it’s been a struggle this season in the record column. The Bearcats opened on a 2-6 run as well with losses to Penn Sate, Miami, Fordham, Longwood, Central Connecticut and Niagara. A nice 7-1 stretch came next with wins over Long Island U, Lafayette, Le Moyne, Lancaster Bible College, Mercyhurst, Army and UMBC (with a loss to Marist), then losses to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Albany and Bryant. It’s been a 4-2 stretch over the last half dozen games though, as Binghamton has dispatched Vermont, Albany, UMass Lowell and NJIT with losses to Bryant and UMBC. So far that gives the Bearcats a 13-14 overall run through 27 outings.

Matched up against NJIT in their Saturday outing, the Bearcats were in the locker room with a three-point edge. Binghamton ended up needing overtime, but in the end they secured a 75-71 victory. Nehemiah Benson put up 20 points with 11 rebounds and two assists. Gavin Walsh also doubled up with his 17 points and 16 rebounds with two assists. Both Chris Walker (nine rebounds; three assists) and Wes Peterson (seven rebounds; four steals) added 11 points each, while Ben Callahan-Gold chipped in eight bench points with six boards.

Why the Binghamton Bearcats will win

• Binghamton has won each of its last seven home games following a road win.
• New Hampshire has lost nine of its last 10 road games against the America East Conference.

Binghamton vs New Hampshire Prediction

I’ll stick with Binghamton. The bad news here is that there’s not a lot to get excited about if you’re not a fan of either team. The good news is that it should be a competitive matchup. Binghamton is coming off a tight win over a struggling NJIT team, shooting an ugly 0-of-15 from 3-point range with 15 turnovers along the way. The win still counts though, and that makes four in the last six games for the Bearcats.

These teams last saw each other back on January 11, in a 79-72 road loss for Binghamton. In that one the Bearcats shot a tepid 41.4 percent from the field with 11 turnovers and got outscored 42-30 in the second half. There’s plenty for the Bearcats to clean up in the rematch, but I think the familiar home surroundings will help.

It would take a huge effort but stranger things have happened. All I know is that if that were to happen, this would be a good place to start. Give me Cincinnati in this one.

I’m on Georgetown in this one. I get the case to be made for Providence catching points as it can be hard to trust this Georgetown team with consistent performances. However, one win over Villanova (in a game I think had more to do with Villanova losing it than it did about Providence winning it) isn’t going to make me forget about the issues that Providence had defensively when Providence is a team that’s hung their hat on their defense for some time now. Georgetown’s played their best basketball at home this season and side by side, I think they’re the more talented team by a fair margin so I’ll lay the points with the Hoyas in this one.

The Tigers are the better team here by a fair margin and are one of the best teams in the country according to the selection committee who have already looked at Auburn as the #1 team in the tournament field. Arkansas on the other hand, has been a pretty big disappointment up to this point, and I think this is just a case of the haves vs. the have-nots and I think Auburn has enough to get the win and cover at home in this one. Portland Looks for Second Straight Win

Portland is looking for their third straight game and they have all kinds of confidence right now. Two games ago against Oregon State, they won 84-72, and in the last game against Loyola Marymount, they won 89-78. In the last game, Portland scored 57 points in the second half to help pace them. St Mary’s is On Fire

St Mary’s is on fire heading into this game, and they just keep beating up on teams. St Mary’s in the last game faced off against Washington State and they scored 77 points while the defense gave up only 56 points on the way to the victory. St Mary’s is averaging 74.7 points, and they are going to have no issue here. Yes, Portland’s offense has been good heading into this game, but remember their last loss when they scored 50 points while the defense gave up 97 points? It’s going to be something similar here. Portland’s defense overall is giving up 81 points per game, and they are going to really struggle here. St Mary’s is going to end up cruising up here to victory. Oklahoma State is really struggling heading into this game and all season that has been the case. Two games ago against TCU, they were competitive, but they ended up losing 73-72. In the last game against Texas Tech, it wasn’t as close and they ended up losing 92-55. At halftime, they were down 43-24 and they couldn’t bounce back. Marchelus Avery had a strong game putting up 13 points and five rebounds, but he was the only player that really found success with the offense. 

Oklahoma State currently sits with a 12-13 record overall and they have gone 10-15 record overall. At home this season they have gone 9-3 straight up. Oklahoma State is averaging 872.2 points while their defense is giving up 75.2 points per game. The offense is ranked 240th in the league while the defense is ranked 278th. UCF is Suddenly Struggling

UCF is suddenly struggling heading into this game and they have lost six games in a row. Two games ago against Iowa State, they lost 77-65 and in the last game against Colorado, they lost 76-63. In the second half, they were outscored 38-27 and that led to the defeat. Keyshawn Hall had a strong game putting up 19 points, nine rebounds, and one assist. Oklahoma State is going to find success in this game. At home, they have been a solid team this year, and I just don’t trust the UCF defense. UCF is giving up 79.4 points per game and they are going to have some major issues again here. Oklahoma State hasn’t been exactly known for their offense but they are going to have no issue putting on a show here. This is going to be a comfortable victory for Oklahoma State.
