I doubt those things improve on the road. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs aren’t in great form either, with losses to Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State, but both of those games came on the road. LA Tech is 7-1 SU at home this season. LA Tech is also far more trustworthy offensively, which includes being top-40 in offensive field goal percentage. If Louisiana Tech is hitting shots, there’s not much WKU can do to counter. I’ll lay the points with Louisiana Tech.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Betting Preview

The Bulldogs’ spot in this bowl game was initially occupied by Marshall, but the Herd had to back out due to significant losses suffered via the transfer portal. In any case, Louisiana Tech went 5-7 this year but has won two of the last three. The Bulldogs beat Western Kentucky and Kennesaw State during that trio.

On November 30 versus the Owls, Louisiana Tech jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead and scored in every quarter during a 33-0 blowout win. Evan Bullock threw for 230 yards, but the real offensive star was Omiri Wiggins with 17 carries for 129 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Army Black Knights Betting Preview

Over on the Army side, they took out Lehigh, Florida Atlantic, Rice, Temple, Tulsa, UAB, East Carolina, Air Force, and North Texas in their first nine before a loss to Notre Dame. The Knights bounced back with wins over UTSA and Tulane before another loss to Navy.

I’m going to stay with Army. The Knights are coming off an embarrassing showing versus a very good Navy team, notching just 179 total yards (114 rushing), 13 first downs and three turnovers (all picks). It was an uncharacteristic outing for Army, who averages 32 points per game and 298.9 rush yards per game (accounting for 44 touchdowns) this season. The Knights’ style of play flummoxes most teams, but those defesnes that are equipped to deal with the onslaught can stop Army in their tracks.

As for Louisiana Tech, they’re obviously just happy to be here. The Bulldogs are in a bowl after just five wins this year—one of which came against a 2-10 Kennesaw State team in the regular-season finale. Louisiana Tech likely doesn’t have the personnel or the scheme to deal with Army, so they’ll have to rely on an epic defensive stand in order to keep the Knights’ score manageable enough for a Bulldogs offense that averages just 22.2 points per game to follow along. That’s a tall order, so I’m taking the Knights in this one.

Kennesaw State Owls Betting Preview

Kennesaw State’s season began with a losing streak versus UTSA, Louisiana, San Jose State, TN-Martin, Jacksonville State, and Middle Tennessee. After beating Liberty, the Owls would fall to Western Kentucky, UTEP, and Sam Houston in the next three.

In their Saturday game versus FIU, the Owls were down 26-17 going into the final quarter. After 10 unanswered points from there, Kennesaw State had a comeback win 27-26. Davis Bryson posted 185 pass yards and two rush scores. Top receiver Carson Kent had four grabs for 56 yards.

LA Tech Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the Louisiana Tech side, they lost three of their first four to NC State, Tulsa, and FIU. The Bulldogs went 3-3 in the next six with wins over Middle Tennessee, UTEP, and Western Kentucky alongside losses to New Mexico State, Sam Houston, and Jacksonville State.

Up against Arkansas last weekend, the Bulldogs were outscored 14-0 in the first half and couldn’t catch up in a 35-14 loss. Evan Bullock threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Tru Edwards had eight catches for 53 yards to top the receivers in the losing effort.

LA Tech vs Kennesaw State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Louisiana Tech. Probably not touching this one, though. The Bulldogs are coming off a tough road game against a decent Arkansas team, but this weekend’s matchup should be much easier. Louisiana Tech posted just 229 yards in that loss (190 passing) with 16 first downs and a 4-of-19 success rate on third-down conversions. I’d like to see the offense find its stride here; the Bulldogs have been at 14 points or below in four of the last five outings.

As for Kennesaw State, they finished strong against FIU, ultimately posting 358 yards (186 passing) and 20 first downs. The Owls have had mixed results in their last four games with 17 or fewer points in two of those (27 or more in the other two). If LA Tech can keep the Owls offense mostly in check, the Bulldogs should cruise here.

I’m leaning toward WKU. The Hilltoppers really need to clean up the rush defense, though. Western Kentucky gave up a whopping 331 yards on the ground in their win over New Mexico State. That said, the defense also came up with five takeaways, which killed a lot of Aggies’ momentum in the victory.

As for LA Tech, they mustered 410 yards (144 rushing), 20 first downs, two turnovers, and a 5-of-13 effort on third-down conversions in their OT loss to Jacksonville State. Their defense did well on three takeaways but also gave up 28 first downs and 9-of-16 on third-down tries. WKU should have control here if they can avoid mistakes.

Jacksonville State Gamecocks Betting Preview

The Gamecocks kicked off their year with losses to Coastal Carolina, Louisville, and Eastern Michigan before righting the ship. The next five games were wins over Southern Miss, Kennesaw State, New Mexico State, Middle Tennessee, and Liberty.

In the matchup with Liberty last Wednesday, the Gamecocks scored points in every quarter along the way to a 31-21 victory. QB Tyler Huff had just 95 passing yards but rushed for 130. Tre Stewart did most of the work though, rushing 27 times for 232 yards and four scores.

I’ll lean toward Jacksonville State. Probably not touching it, though. The Gamecocks were quite one-sided in their latest win, but everything worked out in the end. Jacksonville State posted 458 total yards, with 363 of those coming on the ground. There were a couple of blemishes otherwise: 12 penalties for 115 yards and a 3-of-9 rate on third-down conversions.

As for LA Tech, they’re coming off a pretty miserable loss to Sam Houston. The defense was good overall but couldn’t overcome the four turnovers (three fumbles) and 3.9 yards per play from the offense. The Bulldogs need a real shot in the arm if they’re going to keep pace here.

Sam Houston Bearkats Betting Preview

The Sam Houston Bearkats are 6-2 (3-1) this year after they defeated FIU by a score of 10-7 in their last game. Sam Houston scored the first points of the game in the third quarter, but they needed a late field goal in the fourth for the win. The Bearkats outgained FIU by a total of 207-199, won the turnover battle 1-0, and went 2-13 on third down in the game. Sam Houston lost to Western Kentucky by a score of 31-14 in the game prior to FIU, but they won the four games before that. The Bearkats have gone 39.5% on third down and 10-13 on fourth down so far this year. Hunter Watson is the starting quarterback for Sam Houston, but he is dealing with an injury and is questionable. Watson is expected to play, which will give a huge boost to the offense.

Sam Houston is expected to get their starting quarterback back for this game, after he missed last week, which resulted in only 10 points being scored. The Bearkats have been fantastic this season and Watson has a lot to do with that. Louisiana Tech has won two of their last three games and Bullock has been pretty good at quarterback, but I think they are going to struggle on both sides of the ball here. Skyler Locklear has completed 63.2% of his passes for 953 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions, while Jevon Jackson has rushed for 387 yards and one score. 

Louisiana Tech vs UTEP Prediction 

UTEP comes into this game with a 1-6 record on the season, but their lone win came last week and they should have plenty of momentum here. The Miners have struggled defensively for most of the season, but luckily for them, La Tech doesn’t have a very good offense. Louisiana Tech does have a conference win against Middle Tennessee, but they just lost to New Mexico State as a double-digit favorite. Both of these teams are pretty bad, but I think UTEP’s confidence is going to be very high in this game and I think they could win. Take UTEP and the points.

Give me Troy Trojans getting the 13.5 points here against the South Alabama Jaguars. Even though this might not be the most popular play, this Troy team has been competitive. This Troy squad was beating Iowa at halftime earlier this season, and two games ago against Louisiana-Monroe they gave up only 13 points. Troy is going to get the job done here. 

This total is too high between the two teams. Like stated above, Troy’s defense is going to step up and that is going to be the difference here. I’m going to take a shot at Tulsa and the points. I think that Tulsa’s slightly the better team here despite back-to-back losses as I trust this offense more and LA Tech hasn’t been anything special. Granted, they were competitive against NC State, but also barely got by Nicholls in their opener. Tulsa’s more battled tested in my eyes and I think they have a good shot to win this one outright. Give me Tulsa and the points.
